May Recap

Hi Everyone It’s so nice to be back for today’s What’s up Wednesday post. Hope you have all had a great month. It’s so fun to peek into what people have been eating, watching, reading, and doing. I always enjoy reading these posts. As usual, I am linking up with Sheaffer and Shay. So let’s just jump right in and start with….. What We’re Eating This Week Being at work means salads on repeat for lunch. I jazzed things up a bit and instead of my usual salad with tuna, I made a really delicious marinated chicken breast instead. I cooked it on Sunday night then I chopped it up and portioned it out so that it would last me a for a few days. It was a nice change. This week we also had some delicious burgers. I used turkey mince instead of beef mince. My whole family loves the turkey as it is super juicy and tasty. It’s been a real winner! Monday night I made Paella. It turned out very tasty and the family enjoyed it. I made a cheats version which was super easy! I also made banana bread. It’s the first time in ages since I have baked anything. The cooler weather makes baking much more inviting. What I’m Reminiscing About Well, a lot of things that make me sad. I miss my Mum. What I’m Loving This big, long, warm jacket! I think that our playground at preschool might just be the coldest place on earth. But in saying that, I have to admit that I feel the cold extremely easily. I wore it for the first time last week and I felt like I was wearing my big warm cozy quilt. What We’ve Been Up To I guess we have just been up to trying to get back to normal life. Steve is working crazy, long hours and I am back at work. Sam is super busy with school work. He is doing drama as an HSC subject and so he has been busy filming. I have a starring role in his film. I have no real clue what it’s all about, but I just say the lines in my best creepy tone. Haha….apparently I do creepy well!! What I’m Dreading Thankfully nothing really. What I’m Working On I am painting the rooms in the house!! Well, I started strong when I was off from work. But now that the busyness of everyday life has taken over, I haven’t done much. I will definitely be getting back to this project during the next Term break which is only five weeks away. What I’m Excited About Cozy warm nights with candles, hot drinks, and fluffy blankets. I love Summer, but now that I have this issue with hot flashes….cooler weather is much more appealing. What I’m Watching I watched “Inventing Anna” which was very interesting and I just love her accent! I also watched “The Thing About Pam”. It was quite intriguing, but I didn’t love it. My sister-in-law recommended “Why Women Kill” so I gave it my ten-minute test and I was completely hooked! I watched the first season in a flash! The second season was good too. What I’m Listening To A lovely friend recommended a great podcast called “Separate Bathrooms”. Cameron Daddo and his lovely wife Alison talk very candidly and honestly about marriage. Camero Daddo and Alison Brahe were the “It” couple back in the late’80’s and early’90’s here in Australia. They were both involved in show business and modeling. They moved to America to make it big in the acting world. But… things didn’t go as planned. There was infidelity, bankruptcy, and a whole lot of other issues. They survived it all and through lots of therapy, they managed to stay very happily married and have raised a beautiful family. Their podcast addresses all these issues and I find their honesty so refreshing and inspiring! Highly recommend this podcast! What I’m Doing This Weekend I have just been invited to a birthday party! My lovely friend’s little boy is turning 4 and he is having his party at a play centre. I love her little boy and I am beyond excited!  It’s been years since I have been to a children’s party. My boys are all grown up and I miss those fun days. What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month Next month is The Queen’s Birthday long weekend on the 13th of June. I love three-day weekends. ******* Thanks so much for joining me today for this quick May recap. I really hope you have the best Wednesday!

February 2022

Hi everyone, wow how quick does time fly!!! I am excited to be back here linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for another What’s Up Wednesday post where I am sharing a little of what’s been going on this February 2022. So let’s dive right in! What We’re Eating This Week I am really excited that I have stuck to my meal planning. I know, I know it’s only the end of February but so far so good. Baby steps right? I have to say though, meal planning makes life so much easier. I write out my plan usually on Sunday and then do an online grocery shop. So far I have saved so much time because I no longer go to the shops after work like I used to. I don’t have to worry about thinking of what to cook every day and if I am really stuck then I have some backup meals in the freezer, compliments of “The Dinner Ladies”. So far this week we have had Chilli Quiche and Mediterranean chicken What I’m Reminiscing About The long summer break. I am really missing the carefree days of staying up late and not having to stick to schedules! What I’m Loving This delicious hazelnut coffee syrup. I bought this from Aldi ages ago and I really love it. I use it sparingly as a treat because it has so much sugar. So it has lasted me quite a while. I hardly go into Aldi anymore and they only sell this syrup occasionally. So I was lucky to find it when I ran in to grab something for work at the end of January. What We’ve Been Up To We have all been getting back into the swing of things after the long holiday break. I have been busy at work meeting new families and children. I’m still learning names and getting to know the kids in my class. What I’m Dreading I have been really stressed about my mum’s upcoming hospital stay. She is going in for a few days to help with her mobility issues. I know it’s for the best but hospitals really make me so anxious. What I’m Working On Mindfulness!! My Apple Watch is helping me to remember to stop, breathe and reflect! What I’m Excited About After my mum’s dreadful fall earlier this month. We were all left really shaken and realised that as a family we need to spend more time together. Because friends, life is short!! So my sweet cousin and I have decided that on the first Friday of every month we are going to get together as a whole family for dinner. Now, we know that because life is busy it means that not everyone will always be able to make it. But that’s ok. As long as we have a set date then whoever can come, will come. What I’m Watching I have started watching Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video, starring the lovely John Krasinski. It’s a great series and I am really loving all the action as well as the great storyline. I have also really been enjoying Benita Larsson on Youtube. She is a minimalist from Sweden and she shares about her daily life. She has such a soothing voice and so many great tips that sometimes  I watch her videos in bed just before I am about to fall asleep and I find them so relaxing. What I’m Listening To I have started listening to a great podcast series called “Every Little Thing”. So, listeners call in with questions and they find the answers! So far I have learned all about how the Ta-dum sound on Netflix came to be, Why do we shake hands, and How a Super Bowl Ref works the game. This podcast is right down my alley because it answers so many random questions! Really recommend it!! What I’m Wearing I have just been excited to be wearing my preschool capsule wardrobe. Earlier this year I bought three neutral coloured T-shirts from a cool shop called Muji. I have then made up a simple capsule wardrobe based around them. It means that getting dressed in the morning is so easy. I just mix and match them with shorts, skirts, or pants that are part of this capsule wardrobe.I love all things fashion but working with children means that I need to have a separate work wardrobe. And I can’t be too precious about what I wear to work because hey….paint!! What I’m Doing This Weekend So far this weekend looks pretty chilled! I am happy to be staying home and finishing the book that I am reading, and then getting ready for the week ahead. What I’m Looking Forward To This Next Month I think that I am excited about cooler weather. Yep if you know me then you know that this is highly unusual. I love summer and all the heat. But, something has happened to me and I seem to be having trouble regulating my body temperature( hello hot flashes) and so I am done with feeling so hot!! I am ready to embrace Autumn and get cosy.   That’s all for now, thank you so much for stopping by today. I really hope that you have a great rest of the week!

heart shape for date night at home ideas post

Stay At Home Date Night Ideas

Looking for some stay-at-home date night ideas? Here are 9 simple ideas that you and your partner might like to try. Date Nights Are Important To Keep The Spark In A Relationship Date nights are important for nurturing a relationship at any stage. Whether you are newly dating or have been married for ages. Couples who prioritize date nights and make it a regular habit will enjoy many benefits. Such as better communication, increased affection, and a positive fun time together. Date nights don’t always need to mean going out to dinner or dinner and a movie. While these are certainly fun things to do and of course a big favourite. I mean who doesn’t like getting dressed up and relaxing in a lovely restaurant. I know I do, but sometimes these kinds of date nights may not always be possible. Maybe the budget just doesn’t allow for this kind of indulgence. Perhaps you have a baby or young children and you might not have anyone to babysit. The way the world is today with the pandemic, going out may not even be possible. Either because of lockdown or because you might just prefer to stay home and be safe. Spending time together with your partner is what is important. So scheduling a date night should be a real priority. Here are some fun stay-at-home date night ideas that you might like to try for those times when you either can’t go out or just prefer to stay home. Cook Together As a couple, spend some time during the week browsing through cookbooks or looking online for a recipe that you both might like to try. Spending time together planning will add to the fun and anticipation of your stay-at-home date night. It’s always a bonus when you have something to look forward to. Light some candles, crack open a bottle of wine, play some slow romantic tunes and set the table nicely. You could even use this as an opportunity to explore cuisines from around the world. Why not go ahead and cook a meal inspired by a particular country. This is a fun date night idea where you can work together as a team in the kitchen and then enjoy a lovely meal. Have A Picnic In Your Living Room To keep things simple you could choose to order takeaway for your picnic at home. That way you won’t have to worry about any washing up. You can also keep the menu simple just like you would if were to go on a real picnic in the park. Maybe have cheese, bread, cold meats, paté, dips, crackers, and fruit on the menu. Of course, don’t forget the bubbly! Lay out your picnic rug on your living room floor, add some soft comfy cushions, and turn on your lamps to keep things romantic and cosy. Then spend the night eating, drinking, and enjoying each other’s company. Enjoy A Night Of Reading Sometimes you might not have the energy to do much, especially if you have had a very busy or stressful week. When that happens you might not feel like putting in a big effort planning and preparing a date night. On those nights, instead of skipping date night altogether because of lack of energy. Why not put on your comfy loungewear or cosy robes and spend the night reading. Sit on your sofa next to each other. Make yourselves a drink, open a delicious block of chocolate then spend a few hours reading a book or looking through your favourite magazines. This way you will both be able to relax while you still spend time together. Watch A Movie A Favourite Movie From Your Childhood Watching a movie on Netflix is always fun but why not try switching things up and watch a movie from your younger days. Take turns in choosing the movies as you don’t want to be stuck watching a John Wayne western every time (unless of course, you are passionate about John Wayne westerns too). Order Some Dessert How fun would it be to be able to eat your favourite restaurant or cafe dessert at home in your comfy clothes? So why not consider ordering dessert and have it delivered! You could eat it while enjoying a movie together. Spend The Night Looking At Some Old Photos Together We seem to take a lot of photos these days and who doesn’t have a collection of photos from their childhood? Yet very rarely do we take the time to sit down and have a look at them. Why not make this a date night! Pour a nice cup of your preferred hot drink and make it a night of looking at each other’s old photos. This type of date night is not only fun but it can mean taking a trip down memory lane and maybe even discovering something new about your partner’s life when they were growing up. You could also spend the night looking at your wedding photos. What a great way to reminisce over the time when you first became a married couple. If you have been together for a long time, your photos might be full of past fashion and hairstyles that were “in” at the time. Your date night could also turn into a night full of laughter!! Have A Beer Or Wine Tasting Evening At Home You could choose a few bottles of wine or beer that you may have been wanting to try for a while. Sometimes you can find small bottles at the liquor store but if not then portion them out into small glasses. Resist the urge to finish the bottles or you may not remember your fun date night at home the next day! To make the night more interesting you could also do a bit of research on each type of wine or beer. Maybe print out this information and share it as you slowly sip and enjoy! Add a cheese platter with

A Nice Relaxing Month

Hi all, I’m excited to be back for the first What’s Up Wednesday for 2022. As usual, I am linking up with Sheaffer and Shay for today’s post. Thank you so much for stopping by to have a read and let’s jump straight into What We’re Eating This Week Chicken schnitzel! I just love love love chicken schnitzel and this week I made a big batch of it. I thought I would have some to freeze for later but no, we ended up eating it all!! We had some for dinner with baked potato and salad. Then for lunch the next day I made schnitzel burgers. So delicious! I like to add some parsley, parmesan cheese, and garlic powder to the breadcrumb mix. Gives the schnitzel that extra flavour. What I’m Reminiscing About My Sam is going into his final year of school. How did those last twelve years just fly by so fast? It feels like yesterday that we were all excited about him starting big school. He had a big send-off on his first day of kindergarten. His uncle, cousin, and two grandmothers all come over to wish him well on his first day. Gosh, I’m starting to get emotional just typing this so I might just leave it there. What I’m Loving My new charging pad. How did I not know about this? I mean I kind of had heard about it but had not paid much attention. I certainly didn’t realise how life-changing it would be! The other day I was in Ikea with my lovely bestie and she introduced me to this charging pad. It only cost $9.oo. I don’t need to muck around looking for my charger to plug it into my phone. All I do now is place my phone on the pad and bam, the phone starts to charge. The great thing is that my husband can now charge his phone properly. His cable kept slipping out of the charging port and it was so frustrating for him. This charging pad has been a real game-changer for him too! What We’ve Been Up To Staying up late and sleeping in! Probably my two favourite things to do. Summer holidays mean not having to rush around or stick to schedules. Although I have mainly stayed at home, once again trying to be careful because of you know what. I have also been able to enjoy some really fun outings and activities. Over the last few weeks, I have also gradually gone through the house and done lots of cleaning and organising.  Even though that doesn’t sound like much fun. I have really loved that I have had the time to do this. It always feels so much better to start the school and work year with a more organised house. What I’m Dreading Going back to work. Waaaaaahhhhhhhh! I really do enjoy my job as a preschool educator. Like I have said before, I am really blessed to work with some super friendly, nice, and fun ladies. BUT, what I am really sad about is the going back to rushing around getting “all the things done”. I am not looking forward to that at all, in fact, I am dreading it. Big sigh!! What I’m Excited About I think that I am probably more nervous than I am excited. In order to distract me from my nervousness, my husband has made plans for us to go out for dinner next week and try some Korean BBQ. He’s worked out that if I am thinking about food and looking forward to a mid-week dinner date. Then I won’t be focused on being nervous about going back to work. Haha!! What I’m Watching Ok, so I have only just discovered “The Office”. Where was I and what was I doing when it first aired??? Who knows!!!! I never thought that I would find a sitcom that I loved as much as “Seinfeld” but I can definitely say that”The Office” is now up there as one of my favourites. I have to admit that it took me about four or five episodes to really get into it. Now I can’t stop and I have been binge-watching it every night. I love all the characters and I will be sad when I finish all the seasons. I’m up to season five at the moment. It’s hilarious!!!! What I’m Reading I dusted off my kindle and downloaded a book. It has been such a long time since I have done that! I even had to update my credit card details on my Kindle because that’s how long it’s been. I have always loved reading and growing up I would practically devour books. Up until a couple of years ago I always carried my kindle everywhere I went and I would read whenever I got the chance. Then just like Forest Gump suddenly stopped running. I just stopped reading. Earlier this week I enjoyed reading Joanne’s book review and based on her recommendation I thought I would give “The Good Sister” by Sally Hepworth a try. I am so glad that I did because it got my attention right from the first page. I’m not very far into the book yet but I can see that the story is heading into some kind of really interesting twist. What I’m Listening To Lots of soft relaxing background music on Spotify like jazz and chill-out. Trying to get into the calm zone before next week hits me like a freight train. What I’m Wearing It’s been great to be able to wear a variety of clothes from my wardrobe other than just my preschool work clothes. My feet have also been grateful for not having to wear closed-in shoes during the last six weeks. We aren’t allowed to wear sandals to work for safety reasons. You can imagine how hot and sweaty it feels during the summer. Having said that, I have had toys and equipment fall on my toes over the

Fun Things For Friday!

Hi friends, I hope you have all had a great week and are looking forward to the weekend. Here are a few fun things that I am excited to share with you for today’s Friday Favourites post. As usual, I am linking up with Andrea and Erika. So let’s jump right in with favourite number one. #1 A Day At The Art Gallery My first favourite on this week’s list of a few fun things was a trip to the NSW Art Gallery to see the Matisse exhibition. Steve, Sam, and I caught a train into the city to enjoy lunch and see the lovely works by Henri Matisse. The three of us have made this a tradition where we see one exhibition a year. I love going to visit the art gallery and am happy to do it multiple times throughout the year. Ha! Steve and Sam, not so much. BUT both of them really enjoy the lunch part and they have also been really impressed by all the exhibitions we have been to so far. We always have a fun time together and Sam comments on how much he enjoys it. Are they big art buffs running to the gallery more than once a year? No, ma’am, that’s more my thing!! However, I do appreciate and love how they are happy to come along to something that I really enjoy (the lunch is also a big drawcard 😉) focaccia and burrata with figs for the entree We all enjoyed the swordfish with some fancy carrots as a side. #2 A Fun Shopping Trip I did another trip into the city again later in the week for a fun shopping day with my lovely friend. It’s funny how most of my weeks have been really low-key. Then this week I did not one but two city trips. I love going in so it’s been a great week for me!! My sweet friend and I also work together and are trying to squeeze in some last-minute holiday fun before real life hits us again real soon. #3 Muji My friend took me to a store that I had never been to before called Muji. It’s a Japanese retailer and they sell everything from clothes, household goods, stationery, to furniture. Apparently, some say that Muji is Japan’s equivalent of Ikea. Hmmm, not so sure about that. I really loved their dining chairs that were made from Oak. The prices for them started at $379 each. The bigger armchair-style dining chairs were over $1000 each. Definitely not like Ikea as far as pricing goes. It was fun looking through this store that was new to me. I really liked a lot of their clothing. They had some nice neutral basics so I bought three cotton t-shirts. I have purged a lot of clothes from my wardrobe that do not bring me joy.   #4 Wardrobe Goals My goal for 2022 is to build a capsule wardrobe just for work. Rather than wearing clothes that I really don’t like anymore. So I am starting with the three T-shirts in white, black, and sage that I bought from Muji.  The next step is to organise some pants, long shorts and maybe a skirt. Let’s see how I go. #5 Denim Shorts I found some really nice denim shorts in Myer. They were discounted to half price plus a further 20% off. I had already tried on some clothes previously and I just couldn’t be bothered taking my pants off again! So I tried my shorts over my black pants. I figured that if they fitted this way then they would fit just fine. Ha! #6 Yummy Lunch We stopped for lunch at a cafe in the QVB where I had a chicken and mushroom filo with lentil salad. It was very delicious and I didn’t realise how hungry I was until I started eating. My friend had an egg sandwich with a side salad. I think she kind of enjoyed her lunch but the gluten-free bread was disappointing. Not sure what’s up with gluten-free bread as I have never tried it. But sadly I often hear comments from many people about how it’s not very nice. Egg sandwich Yum! I had a big mouthful of my chicken and mushroom filo and then realised that I hadn’t taken a photo! I ordered a mixed juice which looked good but tasted just like rockmelon and rockmelon isn’t really my favourite. We finished off with some sweets! I had a raspberry friand and a cappuccino and my friend had an orange cake and a hot chocolate. Goodness, I was so full I could barely get up out of my chair!! So we kept browsing the shops to walk off some of our lunch. #7 T2 Look at all these gorgeous teapots! We went into a tea store called T2 where they sell every tea under the sun. As well as some lovely teapots, cups, saucers and anything tea-related! Such a beautiful shop!! #8 A Kikki K Find One of the last shops we visited was my favourite stationery and gift shop called Kikki K. Where I bought this lovely water bottle and glass that sits perfectly on the top. It was a bit pricey but so pretty that I couldn’t resist. Plus I thought that it was a good way to remember to drink water first thing in the morning as I have put it on my bedside table. When I keep a glass of water next to my bed, my little cat always thinks it’s for her to enjoy. So she won’t be able to stick her tongue into this cute bottle.     That’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed looking at a few fun things that I got up to. This past week was my last full week of school holiday as I’m back to work next Friday. Yep, somehow this year the school calendar has us going back on Friday for a

family at Star Wars fan event for favourite traditions post

Favourite Traditions

I think that one of the things that makes a strong positive impact on a kids life is traditions! Traditions are fun they strengthen family bonds, foster a real sense of belonging and create long-lasting special memories. Traditions can be big or small, they can be yearly traditions or traditions that occur often. Here are some of my favourite traditions from my own childhood and some traditions that my family and I do now. My Favourite Childhood Christmas Traditions My family is from Peru and they migrated to Australia in the ’70s. So growing up we celebrated Christmas Peruvian style. We got together with family on Christmas Eve and ate very very late. So late that as a kid I could barely keep my eyes open ! I don’t know how Peruvian children manage to stay awake Christmas Eve but they must be made of much stronger stuff than I was. Christmas dinner included the traditional turkey, salads and of course rice. Peruvians eat rice with everything! Then we would count down to midnight and at the stroke of midnight we all kissed and hugged wishing each other “Feliz Navidad”. Afterwards, we would open the presents and then lastly we would enjoy some hot chocolate with the traditional Italian Christmas cake, panettone! Fun times!! On Christmas Day we just slept in and ate leftovers. My Favourite Childhood New Years Eve Traditions Ok, so this is where things got a little crazy. It’s a Peruvian tradition to eat 12 grapes once the clock strikes midnight BUT you have to eat each grape with each stroke of the clock. Each grape is supposed to represent one month and one wish that you make. Do you know how hard that was?? I don’t think I ever got past five or six grapes. And I certainly didn’t have time to think of any good wishes because as I shoved those grapes in my mouth I was just wishing I didn’t choke and die! It was fun though!! Then I’m not sure if this is really a Peruvian tradition but it was definitely my Mums tradition. You see she was a keen traveller and she believed that if you grabbed an empty suitcase and ran around the block just afer midnight then that meant that you would for sure travel overseas that year. So just picture this for a minute 12 grapes then a sprint around the block. Easy peasy! Sure enough, we did this year after year.  We probably looked like we were on the run from someone who was trying to stab us!! But hey, we did travel, I got to go to Disneyland not once but twice!! Surviving my childhood traditions has meant that now my own family traditions are much much tamer. No more running around the block or potentially choking on grapes in the hopes of gaining a year worth of wishes. No,we do calm things like Eat A Non-Healthy Sugary Cereal During School Holidays. That’s right! Every school holiday my boys were allowed to pick any cereal they wanted. Fruit loops was a big favourite. Then one year my cousin gave us three boxes of American cereal for Christmas and we all just about lost our minds with excitement. We had Reece’s Puffs, Lucky Charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. That was probably the best year of my kids lives!! Star Wars We are all huge Star Wars fans and have of course seen all the original. But we’ve made it a tradition to watch the latest ones together first as soon as they are released at the cinemas. We’ve even done things like go off any social media so we don’t see any spoilers. We want to make sure we all have the same reactions together! I love that we do this! A few years ago I managed to nab some free tickets to a Star Wars fan event held at the Sydney Opera House. My boys got some Star Wars merchandise signed by Harrison Ford and I touched the sleeve of his shirt ahhhhh…….sigh. I’m giddy just thinking about this! Haha. Going to this special event together cemented our love of Star Wars as a family forever!! Visit David Jones For Christmas Every year we visit the Australian department store, David Jones to see the Christmas window display. It used to be very elaborate but recently it’s been quite low-key. But we still go to have a look because hey it’s tradition! Years ago when my kids were little we would also visit David Jones to have “Snacks with Santa”. I would get some tickets for this event and we would get all dressed up to go. The ticket included party food and then a Christmas show followed by photos with Santa. My boys are all grown up now, but they do remember this very fondly. Family Movie Nights As a family, we like to pick a movie to watch together regularly and it’s usually a classic. We watched all the Godfather movies and gangster-type movies last year. With my husband’s new job working such long hours we haven’t done this so much recently. But it’s definitely a favourite tradition and something we need to do again soon! Take Turns Choosing Take Away We don’t get takeaway very often so it’s always special when we do. To keep things fair as well as fun we take turns choosing where we are going to order takeaway food from. Kiss Goodbye, Kiss Goodnight Traditions can be daily, for us kissing goodbye is what we do every day. None of us ever leave the house without kissing each other goodbye. It’s the same with bedtime, we always kiss each other goodnight too. Well just to be clear, I get all the kisses, my son and husband give each other a handshake and a pat on the back. Man style!! Traditions Are Special! Indeed, traditions are definitely special. They help lift us out of the ordinary everyday grind and help create

pina colada for end of year fun

End Of Year Fun

Hi All and thanks for stopping by for this month’s What’s up Wednesday post. I know I say this all the time but friends I cannot believe how fast the time is flying by. I’m sure I’ll blink and it will be Christmas. Woah! I love November and December because these two months it’s all about end of year fun!! 1. WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK We’ve been enjoying the freedom to eat out! We had a lovely dinner at our local club for our preschool’s annual end-of-year parent committee meeting/dinner. It was fun being able to eat and chat with the parents. Covid restrictions and protocols are still in place at preschool. This means that parents aren’t allowed to come into the preschool to drop off or pick up. We just meet them at the gate and sign the children in and out. I have always enjoyed getting to know the parents and chatting with them in the mornings and afternoons. Sadly this hasn’t been able to happen this year. So on Tuesday night, it was great to be able to get to know some of the lovely parents while enjoying a delicious meal. I had the snapper. It had the most delicious orange sauce. So good! A piña colada! One of our colleagues brought this amazing cake for dessert. Aside from this, we have also been eating lots of salads at home, I keep thinking that if we eat more salads the weather might warm up. But nope, most days it’s been cold and rainy. Spring where are you???? 2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT After lockdown, we have gone from zero to one hundred in terms of the frantic pace of life. The chase is on every day to get “all the things” done. Sigh! I’m missing the quieter, slower routine. 3. WHAT I’M LOVING I’m loving going to fun places like The Grounds Of Alexandria and going thrift shopping at Mitchell Road Antiques. A while back I shared how the last time I was there I had loved a pair of brand new and very bright coloured Orla Kiely shoes.  But was all indecisive and didn’t buy them. I then spent the next few weeks annoyed at myself because I couldn’t get those shoes out of my mind. Well, I went back to Mitchell Road Antiques a couple of weeks ago with my lovely friend and they were still there!! I couldn’t believe it. This time I did not hesitate and I snapped them up quick smart. They are super bright and not normally like anything I would go for. But they make me happy. Ha! We had a blast trying on some cool leather jackets! 4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO WORK WORK WORK!! I’m looking forward to the Christmas break. It’s week 8 this week and we finish up in week 11. Preschool will be closed for 5 weeks of glorious Summer holidays. Let’s hope the weather gets on board! 5. WHAT I’M DREADING Hmmmmm, let me think. Nope, I’m not dreading anything at the moment. These last few weeks are when all the fun stuff happens!! Staff Christmas dinner, Children’s Christmas parties, concerts, watching Christmas movies, and decorating the house. Yes indeed, all the fun stuff!! 6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON I have been super busy putting together the preschool end-of-year movie! It used to be a slide show, but now I would say it’s more of a movie. I take lots of videos and photos of the children throughout the year and now I am putting it all together. I found some great music to go with it too which I am really happy about.  There’s one nostalgic song and one upbeat song.  This project is a fun challenge for me and I have to admit that I get a bit obsessed with making it. It’s always on my mind and I have the music going on in my head constantly on loop. It will be good when it’s all edited and finished. Then hopefully my brain can have a rest. 7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT Christmas!! As well as the end of year fun and Christmas holidays. I’ve got a few things that I am planning to do during the break. We’re not going away anywhere but I’m excited about visiting local places and doing day trips. 8. WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING Do you know I used to read all the time? When I was at school I used to have to catch the train and then walk. My school was about an hour away by public transport from my home. Well, the whole trip I would be reading. I would even read as I walked. I’m so glad I didn’t get hit by a bus or something. Now I don’t read hardly at all, there’s just no time. I do however like to have a show on while I am cooking or doing chores. It’s the British shows that I have been really into lately. Recently, I discovered a series called ‘Finding Alice’ and watched season one on ABC iView. The lead actor is Keeley Hawes, the same lady who was in ‘The Durrells’. ‘Finding Alice’ is a comedy/drama series and it was so good. I totally recommend it as it had the right balance of humour and drama with plot twists as well as surprises. Now I have to wait for Season two which doesn’t come out until next year. 9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO I’ve been listening to Crowded House on Spotify and taking a trip back to my high school days. 10. WHAT I’M WEARING So I’m still wearing winter clothes. Why oh why am I still having to wear jumpers, jackets, and thick bed socks. It’s supposed to be Spring but most days I’ve been freezing!!!! I Haven’t been able to enjoy wearing many spring outfits at all! 11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND I think I will be putting up my Christmas tree and decorating for

A Fun Month

Hello, Wednesday! Hope you are all doing well and thank you so much for joining me in today’s What’s up Wednesday post where I will be sharing a little of this and a little of that. It’s been a great month with lots of fun things happening so let’s jump straight in and start with What We’re Eating This Week It’s still cool weather here in Sydney so I’ve been indulging in my love affair with carbs. I made a cottage pie earlier this week and it was so delicious! What I’m Loving I am so happy about being able to get out and about catching up with friends and family. I think that probably the hardest part about being in lockdown was being unable to meet up with loved ones. But now that lockdown is all over, I am really enjoying the freedom to meet up with everyone who I have been missing. I have also been able to get together with my lovely friend for a coffee catch-up which was really nice! We still have a bunch of things we are planning on doing together. Both of us are being very careful about staying Covid safe and getting used to this new “normal” way of living. But soon enough we will be doing lots of local exploring. Sydney we’re coming for you! What We’ve Been Up To We’ve been getting back to work! I can’t lie this one has been a bit tough. Lockdown had me at home from work most of the time which was a real treat! I’ve been working at preschool full-time for about 13 years. While I do love it and am so grateful that it is very close to where I live, full-time work is tricky. Balancing work, family, and “all the things” can be exhausting. So even though I missed my family and friends, lockdown gave me some time to breathe. Sam is back at school and very happy to see his friends. Steve who works in hospitality is now even busier than ever. He worked all through lockdown but his hours were reduced a bit. Now Sydney is open again he’s back to working long hours and I’ve hardly seen him! What I’m Dreading Nothing! I’m thankfully not dreading anything. I’m just super excited about the end of the year. September through to December are my favourite months ever!! What I’m Working On I’ve been sorting through boxes and boxes of old photos, toys, and neverending Pokémon cards. Look at this cute photo of my son! Going through my kid’s photos from when they were little made this chore much more bearable!! I’m also working on our end-of-year preschool movie. Throughout the year I make sure to take lots of photos and film the kids while they are at preschool. Then I put a movie together for each class using the iMovie app. It’s hours and hours of editing but I really enjoy this project. The parents love watching it and often get very teary seeing their little ones. I’m still trying to work out what songs to use for the movie, so if you guys have any ideas please leave me some suggestions in the comments below. I would be forever grateful!!   What I’m Excited About November is a pretty big month at preschool. We will be getting right into all the Christmas crafts as well as practicing for our Christmas concert. Every year our preschool has a big concert for the parents. The children spend weeks and weeks practicing, Everyone gets a very important part to perform. There’s singing, dancing, a play, costumes, and graduation. Sadly we say goodbye to most of our older kids as they set off for big school while the younger ones stay on for another year. What I’m Watching I finally finished most of the shows I started at the beginning of lockdown. My favourites were “The Durrells” “Parenthood” and “In The Club”. I am currently watching a comedy/Drama called “Bliss”. It’s an English show about an accidental bigamist! It’s funny and it has quite a few laugh-out-loud moments! The show I am really loving at the moment is “The Block”. It’s an Aussie reality show about renovating houses that end up going up for auction. The winner is the couple whose house sells for the highest price. It’s the final two weeks so it’s all very exciting. Always lots of drama going on at the block!! What I’m Wearing I’m wearing work clothes again. Just the usual basics that I don’t mind getting ruined. Can’t be too precious about clothes when you’re working at a preschool. BUT I’ve also had the chance to wear some nice jeans that I bought just before we all went into lockdown. I wore them for the first time the other night when we went out for dinner. These jeans are from Witchery and are super comfortable. I’m loving the high waist and how everything feels nicely tucked in (ha, you know what I mean right?) What I’m Doing This Weekend I’m organising a Halloween dinner and movie night for my family like I did last year. I can’t seem to get my head around the fact that it will be November next week!! Because we had such a long lockdown it almost feels like we’ve had our end-of-year break and now it’s the beginning of the year all over again. I’m just confused!! What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month Warmer weather!! So far we’ve had really cool weather with only a few warm to almost hot days here and there. I am ready for Summer but it’s just not happening yet, come on already!! That’s about it Well, that’s all for now. It really was a fun month when we were able to enjoy life post lockdown. I  hope you have a most wonderful day. See you back here tomorrow where I will be sharing a recipe for a very simple quiche!     Linking

Monthly Recap

Hi everyone happy Wednesday!! Thank you so much for joining me for today’s monthly recap What’s up Wednesday post where I am linking up with Sheaffer and Shay. Can you believe a whole month has flown past us just like that? We are really getting closer to the end of the year when all the fun stuff happens! Well, we finally have a date set for ‘Freedom Day’. The NSW premier announced that lockdown will officially end on 11th October. I am super excited that I’ll be able to see my family who I have missed so much and it looks like Christmas is all systems go!! Ok let’s recap this month and jump into today’s fun what’s Up Wednesday post beginning with 1. What We’re Eating Hello Mangos! yes, delicious sweet juicy mangos are back. I just love them, don’t you? Plus, every time I see mangos at the supermarket I get really excited. Because to me, seeing them means we are heading into summer, longer days, fun BBQs and end-of-year celebrations! Yes, I love mangos not just because of their delicious flavour but also because of what they represent! Go Mangos!! Sam has really been into ‘Full English Breakfasts’. So most Saturdays this month we have been indulging in scrambled eggs, mushrooms, sausages, bacon, hash browns, and tomatoes. It’s been a real cholesterol fest for me! But oh so delicious!! Smoothies!! we’ve had so many bananas lately given to us from some friends who have a banana tree in their back yard. So we’ve made delicious sweet banana smoothies with low-fat milk, just to make me feel a bit better about the state of my arteries. 2. What I’m Reminiscing About Being able to celebrate birthdays with my family. My mum, who lives with us turned 93 on 15th September and so I made her all her favourite food for dinner and an upside-down pineapple cake instead of a usual birthday cake. But this year it was just the 4 of us and I kept thinking back to last year when we had the whole family together. I’m feeling much more optimistic now though since we have a date set for when we can finally get together. 3. What I’m Loving Cutting my own hair! I know this must sound crazy but my hair was driving me nuts. It grows so fast especially the back. Not knowing when the lockdown was ending back in July I got brave and cut quite a bit off the back of my hair and tidied up the side layers. And guess what! It actually looked pretty good. I even liked it better than when my hairdresser does it. To tell the truth, in all my years I have never, that’s right never found a hairdresser I have been completely happy with. They always cut the sides too short and leave the back too long. They all do this, maybe it’s because I have a weird-shaped head or something. So anyway I trimmed it again last week and now I’m thinking this is the way to go for me. I can just trim it whenever I feel like it without having to wait for an appointment. 4. What we’ve been up to Just the usual lockdown stuff, staying up way too late on the days when I didn’t have to go into work. Watching really fun shows, playing words with friends, and endlessly chatting to my bestie on messenger. Sam has been doing online learning all term and can’t wait to get back to school to see his friends. He is super excited the gyms are opening up soon too. He has his driving learner’s permit so he’s gone back to doing lessons with Steve again. Strict lockdown had us all too scared to even let Sam practice driving in case they got stopped by the police. Now things have improved and some restrictions are easing he’s been back on the road with his dad again. Gulp! Steve’s been working, as usual, nothing much changed for him during lockdown because he works in hospitality. Restaurants were allowed to stay open for pick up and take away only. He can hardly wait for the local swimming pool to reopen. He loves swimming and is part of a Sunday morning swim club. We are very both very different, he likes swimming and sports. I like to be dry and sitting still. 5. What I’m Dreading I’m not really dreading much at the moment. We’ve all had our covid vaccines, Sam has his second dose next Monday. I was a bit anxious about that and glad it’s over. I guess I’m just dreading the frantic pace of life once everything reopens. Don’t get me wrong I am excited that lockdown is ending very soon but for the first time ever I had a chance to see what life was like without having to rush around everywhere. I’m thinking I need to make a few changes, I don’t want that stress-tight neck muscle to come back ever again. 6. What I’m Working On I’m planning a big get-together with my family for later next month. Last year I had everyone over for dinner and to watch a Halloween movie. I bought a cheap but good projector and we had a big-screen experience in the living room. Everyone had such a great time and I’m hoping to do this again soonish. I’ve also been doing things like tidying up and getting rid of unnecessary hair and makeup products from my bathroom cabinet. I’ve done my ensuite but need to do the main bathroom cabinet. I’m just not feeling very motivated at the moment but I am working on it. 7. What I’m Excited About I have to hold on to my heart because Sam turns 17 on Wednesday! How is that even possible. My nickname for him is Little Sam even though he’s over 6 feet tall and towers over me. I called him that in front of

Friday favourites graphic

It’s the weekend!

Hi everyone, happy Friday!!  Yes, It’s the weekend and isn’t that great?  Thank you so much for stopping by today and joining me for today’s Friday Favorites post. I’m super excited to share with you guys a few of my favorites for this week. 1 First up I have to tell you I’m not just excited that it’s the weekend, I’m also happy that it’s the end of term break! I’ve been off work this week and I’m off next week too. I have to say that the last term at preschool has been so strange with all the staff on a part-time roster and hardly any children attending. Normally everyone is really pumped for the holidays and the last Friday before term break is always a flurry of excitement. Not so this time, it was a very low-key end to the term. But being on holiday from work is definitely a huge favorite. 2 We made a scarecrow during the last week of preschool! My lovely teacher friend had a great idea to make a scarecrow! We have so many Ibis living in these huge palm trees right outside preschool. They are actually becoming a big problem but there is nothing we can do because Ibis are protected in  NSW. Not that we would want anything awful to happen to them. It would have just been good if our local council could have been able to relocate them to the wetlands, where they usually live. After many enquiries, our preschool has been told that there is nothing to be done about them. Our solution to the problem was to make a scarecrow!! Although I have a feeling that he is too friendly looking to scare anything or anyone. Ha!, what do you guys think? 3 Sam received his Year 12 jacket in the post. I really love the design and it fitted him so well. But seeing him wear it made me happy and super sad all at once. I’m actually feeling teary just writing about it now. How did the time go so fast?  It feels like just yesterday that he was at preschool with me. It feels like five minutes ago he was starting Kindergarten and now he’s going into his final year of school. Waaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!! 4  Being in lockdown for now nearly 14 weeks is not so bad, especially when kind friends bring you scones! I had another friend drop these yummy, soft, fluffy scones complete with whipped cream and strawberry jam. 5 I am both a tea drinker and a coffee drinker and I am yet to pick a side because I can’t love one more than the other.  The Moconna brand is my favorite when it comes to instant coffee. I tried this one for the first time, instead of the usual one I buy and I really enjoyed it.  It tastes creamy plus I liked the fact that I bought it for half price!! 6 Look what all the staff got on the last day of term! A beautiful bouquet of flowers for each one of us!! Our preschool’s parent committee arranged to have these delivered as a surprise. They wanted to say thank you for just having finished off a very challenging term due to Covid lockdown. What a lovely gesture!! I must say that the preschool where I work not only has great staff but we are also lucky to have such a kind and super supportive parent committee. 7 My kitty cat is always a favorite. Here she is meowing at me, she’s been very vocal lately. maybe she is excited that it’s spring just like the rest of us! I can see she is losing some fur all over the floor too. 8 I was tidying up my bathroom cabinet and I found this I forgot I had bought this hair mask a while ago. I’ve mentioned before how much I love the Argan oil shampoo from Aldi. Well, this Aldi hair mask is just brilliant! Leaves your hair even softer and feeling healthier. I can’t remember if this was a special buy or they always sell it. It’s been ages since I’ve shopped at Aldi. But I will return once lockdown is over. 9 I had to run to Woolworths to pick up my online grocery order and I got to wear a dress!! It was a little cool and windy but definitely dress weather. It was so good to get out of track pants and my old T-shirt. I don’t really like posting pictures of myself but I have to show you because I was so excited. 10 Look at this!! I am so excited about this! I know, I know it’s a little crazy because my kids are too old but Mumma is collecting! Every time you spend $30 at Woolworths you get a little bag with bricks to make a Woolworths supermarket. That’s right a mini supermarket made of bricks!! I even went out especially this morning to buy the walls. I’ve got big plans to put this together tonight! 11 I found a Kit Kat wrapper completely sealed with no Kit Kat inside. I didn’t know whether to laugh or be sad that I missed out on a piece of my favorite chocolate!! That’s ok the bag comes with 17 more pieces and it really was funny. At first, I thought Sam was playing a trick on me. We both had a good laugh when I showed him. That’s All For Now I’m sure you are all as happy as I am that it’s the weekend. Even during lockdown weekends are still special and Friday nights are great for relaxing with the family. Steve is at work till late so I’ll put my little bricks together then when he gets home we’ll probably watch an episode of Good Girls. Please take care, stay safe, and enjoy your weekend! Linking up with Andrea and Erika
