A Few Fun Things

Happy Friday Everyone! Hope you all enjoyed a great week and are ready for a relaxing weekend. I know I sure am. Thank you for stopping by today to have a look at a few fun things that happened in my little world. Well, this is the last week I will be working part-time hours. As of  Monday, it will be all systems go as all the kids will be returning to preschool. That’s nearly 40 children each and every day Monday to Friday. Wow! Along with back to full-time work for me, it will be back to school for Sam. He’s excited to go back as he has really missed his friends and I think like a lot of kids, he’s had enough of online learning. He just wants things back to normal. I’ll put the chaos that is about to start next week out of my mind for now. As I’m sure we will all be back in the swing of things like nothing ever happened.  So for now, let’s jump in and have a look at this week and a few fun things I was able to get up to because Sydney is finally open!! #1 A few months ago I promised myself that one of the first things I was going to do post lockdown was to visit my favourite place. I’m referring to Mitchell Rd Antiques and Design Centre. I was so happy to be back, I just love this place so much. It’s a huge warehouse made up of many different stalls all independently owned. Retro Fun I strolled along looking at all the retro furniture, clothes, toys, books. Every time I visit I feel like I am stepping back in time to my childhood and all the fun 70’s and 80’s decor. I find myself wishing I hadn’t thrown so many things out when I helped my mum empty her flat. Mid-century furniture is popular all over again and the price tag for some of the furniture is quite incredible. I’m thinking we should have kept those bright orange chairs I got rid of a few years ago! Look at these fun Orla Kiely shoes I tried on. They were my size, fitted perfectly, and were brand new. I didn’t end up buying them and now I’m really annoyed at myself. If by chance they are still there next time I visit I might go ahead and get them. I just wasn’t feeling brave enough to add them to my shoe collection the other day. But now I can’t stop thinking about them. Does that ever happen to you? Ugh, I am really regretting my indecisiveness. Boo! #2 When we got home from visiting Mitchell Rd Antiques I popped a rack of lamb in the oven. I had left it marinating with garlic and rosemary before we left, luckily I had also roasted the potatoes too. There’s nothing worse than coming home from a fun outing and having to scramble to get dinner ready. The flavors of the rosemary and garlic had some time to infuse while we were away and Oh my goodness, it was so delicious!! My mouth is watering as I am typing this. We had vegetables and gravy to go with it. #3 Desserts For The Win! Steve always says that after a nice meal like that you need a dessert. I’m not arguing with this!! I hadn’t made anything so we decided to go to Mcdonalds and do a quick drive through for some sundaes and McFlurrys. Drive through desserts are a big favourite. We got back home ate our desserts and caught up on some shows I had taped during the week and hadn’t had a chance to watch yet. So many shows, so little time!! We watched a couple of episodes of FBI and called it a night. #4 Wednesday I caught up with my beautiful friend. Have I told you how much I love my friend? She is so kind, sweet, and encouraging and I am so thankful to have her. The best part is, is that I get to see her at work because we work together four days out of five. Yay!! Anyway, we were going to go for a bit of a walk over this cool bridge that is I guess you could call a walking track. It’s not far from where I live but I have never actually been on it. I have heard that it’s a really nice scenic walk too with a pleasure ground on the other side and a nice cafe. Cafe Fun Well of course it had to rain, so we ditched that plan for another day and met up in another suburb close by. I found a cafe that was actually taking dine-in customers.  Most of the cafes were still doing take away only. We parked ourselves there for the next hour or so and had the best time. We just chatted about everything and it always feels like there’s never enough time because we have so much to say. In between chatting, we took a few breaths and also indulged in some delicious brunch. This was the first time I had been out to eat anywhere since lockdown so it was such a treat. I ordered a skinny cappuccino and my lovely friend had a chai latte which smelt of delicious cinnamon and other spices. We shared eggs on toast and we both agreed that poached eggs with a runny yolk is the only way to go. So yum! #5 Thursday I took my Mumma to get her Pfizer shot. She had been so reluctant to get it. All my family has been really worried about her not being vaccinated and now with everything opened up only double vaccinated people are allowed in shops, restaurants, cafes, and other places. Even some doctors are only seeing double vaccinated patients face to face. Brave Mum! I don’t really blame my mum for being reluctant about the

pancakes

Healthy Pancakes

These delicious and healthy pancakes are made with bananas, spelt flour, sunflower seeds and pepitas. Indeed they are not only great to eat for breakfast, but they also make a tasty snack too. You can also add them to your kid’s lunchboxes because they are a fantastic, tasty and nutritious treat. Your kids will thank you!! The mashed banana gives the pancakes a yummy natural sweetness and the ground sunflower seeds and pepitas add extra protein. Therefore this will keep you fuller for longer and you won’t be tempted to snack on empty calories throughout the day. Wholemeal spelt flour contains important nutrients such as iron, magnesium and zinc. It also gives the pancakes a really nice nutty flavour. Another great thing about wholemeal spelt flour is that it is an excellent source of fibre. I like to have the mixture all prepared the night before and stored in the fridge. So all I have to do is cook them in the morning and serve them all nice and hot. You can serve these healthy pancakes with Berries, Greek yoghurt, or Ricotta and of course Natural Maple Syrup or Honey. But you don’t have to add anything if you don’t want to because they are delicious enough to eat on their own.   Healthy Pancakes Ingredients 1/4 cup pepitas 1/4 cup sunflower seeds 2 cups wholemeal spelt flour 2 eggs beaten 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or honey 2 cups milk 2 ripe bananas Method Grind pepitas and sunflower seeds in a blender or food processor. Making sure they are finely ground. In a bowl mash bananas and mix together with honey or maple syrup, milk and lightly beaten eggs. cleaning products for how to get motivated for cleaning and organising

How To Get Motivated To Clean And Organise

Let’s be honest finding the motivation to clean and declutter can be hard sometimes. Life can be pretty hectic, right? And there are times when we can all feel tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or just lacking energy. So let’s look at some simple ways for how to get motivated to clean and organise when the struggle is real. Visualize Your Space Looking Clean This is the first step I like to take when I am looking at how to get motivated to clean and organise. If there is an area of my house that is bothering me because it’s looking messy and cluttered. I start to visualise how I would really like it to look if it was all neat and tidy. Making plans for how to use that space is also very helpful. My garage was converted into another living area a few years ago. But over time it had started to slowly become a dumping ground and it was really annoying me. I knew it could make a really good space for a little office if I got rid of the mess. So I began by imagining how I would like it to look. I thought about where I could fit a table or desk. How I could decorate it and how good it would feel to have somewhere quiet to work. I thought about it a lot and made many plans in my head. In the end, I psyched myself up so much that I was actually excited to start the whole process. Start Small Sometimes it’s easier to start on a smaller and more specific area than trying to tackle a whole room. Choose one thing that you would like to see tidy and work on that first. For example Get rid of paper clutter from your kitchen benchtop or table Declutter a desk Throw out old plastic containers from your plastics cupboard Toss old makeup and unused beauty products from your bathroom cabinet Clean out one bedside table drawer Choose anything that will make you feel good about having made a start. Play Your Favourite Music The music you love will always lift your spirits so why not go ahead and crank it up to make cleaning and organising fun. You can have your own dance party and bust out some moves alongside your broom. Perhaps make up a playlist with say 20 or 30 minutes worth of your favourite songs. That can be like your timer, once the music is finished so can you! Listen To A Podcast or Audiobook While You Clean And Organize Sometimes it feels like there are so many other things I’d rather be doing than being stuck cleaning and organizing. That’s where listening to something interesting serves as a distraction from what I’m NOT having fun doing. Listening to something while tackling unpleasant chores almost feels like you are killing two birds with one stone. You are cleaning and learning something at the same time. Win/win!! Watch A Cleaning Video On YouTube Another strategy for how to get motivated to clean and organse is to watch a YouTube video. I like doing this before I get stuck into a task. For example, if I want to clean my pantry I might watch a quick video that will give me tips and suggestions. Plus seeing someone else’s pantry all organised usually gives me enough pantry envy to get the job done quick-smart! Other times I like to have a cleaning and organising video playing while I clean. I know it might sound strange but having someone cleaning alongside you is very motivating. You almost feel like you are not alone because you are cleaning with a YouTube buddy. Just be careful not to get distracted. Try A New Cleaning Product Find a new cleaning product that will motivate you to get started with cleaning. A couple of years ago the Method Cleaning products were constantly being talked about and recommended. They were very appealing too. The cleaning liquids were all pretty colours and they came in nice clear bottles. I bought some after I had read so many recommendations and got stuck into cleaning. They worked quite well and smelled really nice too. Best of all they motivated me to start tackling my floors and kitchen cupboards. Reward Yourself This is another big motivation for me. If I know something I like doing is waiting for me at the other end of the clutter road, then I’m all in! It doesn’t have to be anything huge. For me, it’s usually an episode or ten of my favourite show. The best part is that once you finish the cleaning task you have assigned yourself you will be able to enjoy your reward guilt-free. Implement A Regular Cleaning Routine Once you’ve successfully been able to clean an area of your home. You will definitely be more motivated to keep it clean. Perhaps consider assigning and delegating chores so everything is not always on you. Set up a doable cleaning schedule that you and your family can regularly carry out. Cleaning a little each day is probably the safest way to stop the household chores from getting out of control. Furthermore, if you do a little bit every day then you will be able to enjoy your weekends more. No none wants to waste their precious weekend doing housework. No ma’am Plan To Have Friends or Family Over This is a huge motivation because you don’t want your friends or family to see your house looking like a mess! Also if you know you’re having guests over on a certain date then you know how many days you have to get your house in order and meet that deadline. I have a friend who does this. She is naturally hospitable by nature so this is her big motivation. She likes having people over but detests cleaning and organising. If she knows people are coming over then she will get stuck into cleaning no

children playing for social skills for children

Social Skills For Children

Social skills for children are so incredibly important. They need these so they can grow up to be well-developed individuals who are able to communicate appropriately and form friendships and relationships. Kids can learn social skills from their parents at home or from schools, preschools, and therapists. At the preschool where I work, each and every year the educators run a really great research-based social skills programme called PALS. PALS was developed in Australia by clinical psychologists and early childhood educators for use in early childhood centres. It is a fun programme that teaches kids important social skills by using stories, songs, and puppets. So What Are Social Skills? Social skills are also known as interpersonal skills and they refer to the skills we use each and every day to communicate and interact with others. These skills are used to communicate both verbally and non-verbally. They involve things like facial expression, eye contact, speech, gesture as well as body language. Benefits Of Good Social Skills Children can communicate effectively When Children have good social skills they are able to enjoy good positive relationships with their peers. Children are able to make friends easily and can also sustain friendships. Children who have the skills to form friendships are also generally happier at school and this leads them to be able to learn better in the classroom. Good social skills are skills that children will carry on into adulthood Cooperate with others They are able to share and take turns with others Children are able to adapt to various situations Ask for help when they need to Important Social Skills For Children Good Manners Kids need to know that it is important that we are respectful to others. They need to learn how to ask for things appropriately by using the words “Please” and “Thank You”. When requesting something from someone they should also be able to make eye contact and use the other person’s name. Using Words To Ask For What They Want It’s essential that children know how to ask for what they want. We should encourage children to verbalize their requests instead of using tantrums, whingeing, and grunting as a means of communicating. Of course, toddlers who are learning will often resort to these methods as a way of expressing their needs and wants. It’s up to us to patiently teach them the appropriate skills they need to be able to communicate effectively. Sharing As children get older they need to be able to share in order to play and form positive relationships with other children. Sharing is vital for getting along with others and children need to learn and understand this so they can make and keep friends. It’s no fun playing with a friend who won’t share their space or toys. Winning And Losing Children need to learn that they can’t win all the time. Throwing tantrums and getting angry will make it difficult for other children to want to play with them. As hard as it might be to watch our kids get upset by a loss. We are doing them no long-term favours if all they ever experience is winning. Communicate Effectively Children need to be able to know how to have reciprocal conversations with others. They should know how to ask questions, take turns when speaking and listen to ideas and suggestions from their peers. They also need to know how to form boundaries by learning appropriate ways to say “No”. What Can Parents Do Parents can help their children by teaching them important social skills. As we all know children are always watching and learning by our example. So it’s really important that we are good role models for them. Children need to play with other children in a variety of settings so they can learn good social skills. Parents can facilitate this by organising and encouraging these valuable play opportunities. The good news is that parents can also try a variety of fun activities at home that will give children the opportunity to develop and improve their socials skills. Games When you play board games with your kids make sure to give them opportunities to experience both winning as well as losing. By doing this they will be better prepared for times when they experience losing while playing with their peers outside of their home environment. Turn-taking games such as Uno and Snap are also great for teaching kids to understand who’s turn it is by saying “My turn” “Your turn”. Role Play Practice different scenarios with your kids at home. For example, you could pretend to be a child at preschool who wants to play with a toy another child is playing with. Make up a list of different things you could politely say to ask for a turn. Using puppets is also a great idea and one that we use at preschool. We role-play endless possible scenarios that kids may come across in different social settings. And we teach them how to respond in a socially acceptable way. Visuals You can make up a chart that shows clear step-by-step pictures of appropriate ways of interacting with others. These visuals could include simple pictures of making eye contact, smiling, and saying hello. You can then use these visuals to discuss with your child how to interact in a socially appropriate way. We use visuals for everything at preschool and it’s such an effective tool when it comes to teaching social skills because kids respond so well to them. Singing There are traditional songs like “If you’re happy and you know it claps your hands” that teach emotions. You can also sift through YouTube to find songs that teach social skills. Some of these are catchy and easy for children to remember. In Conclusion Don’t forget that children need time and patience from nurturing parents, carers, and educators to learn and develop good social skills. Even as adults we are constantly finding ways to improve our social skills based on our own

on the way to the markets for the last weekend of lockdown

Last Weekend of Lockdown

Hi Friends I hope you are all well and have enjoyed a fabulous weekend. Well, it’s official! As of today, Lockdown is finally over here in NSW and we have just had our very last weekend of lockdown. I have mixed feelings about going back to the hectic lifestyle I had become used to. So going forward I have been trying really hard to re-evaluate and adjust some things. Fingers crossed life will be a whole lot calmer than it was pre-lockdown. But at the moment I am just so excited about everything opening up and finally being able to get together with friends and family! It’s just been such a long time since we have done this and I can’t wait! A Fun Weekend Before this weekend all of my weekends for the last 15 weeks have been pretty much the same. But I must confess that I really did enjoy being able to stay home. It felt great to not have any reason to rush around getting stuff done. I was able to watch a lot of shows that I would never normally have the time to watch, stayed up incredibly late, and ate way too many treats. This weekend was different. Even though we were still officially “In lockdown” restrictions in the last couple of weeks have eased. We are now allowed to gather outside in groups of up to 5. Added to that we were finally able to go outside our 5km radius. I could almost hear people breathing a sigh of relief and there was definitely a buzz of excitement in the air because of the impending end to lockdown. Saturday Saturday was just a glorious sunny day and our local farmers market was finally open. Steve and I headed over there at around 11 am, he had worked till about 1 am Friday night so a sleep-in was definitely required. On the way to the markets, we walked past a little stream. The water was crystal clear and we could see little fish swimming along. We stopped and had a look taking in the sights and smells. I don’t ever want to take anything for granted again. It was such a treat to be able to enjoy this moment in the sunshine. We Had A Delicious Lunch There were heaps of people out and about finally tasting freedom! The first thing we did was make a beeline to get a lamb and gravy roll. Both of us had been craving this for the longest time and friends it did not disappoint. The lamb is always deliciously tender and the gravy tastes like no other. We had it on a yummy soft wholemeal roll. So good!! We wandered around looking at all the different organic fruit and vegetable stalls as well as the food trucks. So much choice and variety. I felt like a little kid in a candy store. We stopped off for some coffees and I enjoyed a large skinny cappuccino and Steve had a large chai latte. Whenever we go out we usually order regular sizes, but it had been a long time between coffees so we splurged and had the large ones. We met up with some friends who were there as well and stopped for a nice long chat, we then kept browsing and enjoyed every minute. Sweet Treats There was a really cute new cake and sweets stall.  All the cupcakes, slices, and cookies looked so good that it was incredibly hard to make a choice. In the end, I chose a caramel, white chocolate, and macadamia slice. At first, I thought I should get two but I ended up just getting one to share. I’m so glad I did because it was really rich and oh so satisfying. I don’t think I could have finished one by myself. Steve had to go to work later that afternoon so we left and plan to go back next Saturday. We have a lot of catching up to do as far as trying all the different food available at the farmer’s market. An Unusual New Show On Netflix Saturday evening after I picked up Sam from his friend’s place. He asked if I wanted to watch a new show with him on Netflix called “Squid Game”. So we had dinner and then settled down on the couch to watch. Well what can I say other than “What an unusual show!!” Have you seen it? I’m not sure how I feel about it. Some parts have left me wide-eyed and others have made me cringe at the gore. We watched a couple of episodes and then went to bed. We’ll probably continue watching more in the next few days. I can’t quite figure out where this show is headed. I’m glad I was able to sleep Saturday night, sometimes when Steve’s at work and I go to bed by myself I find it hard to sleep. That’s probably because I stay up playing Candy Crush or watching a show on my Ipad. I should really get out of that habit especially since I’ll be back to full-time work soon. Sunday We all enjoyed a sleep-in on Sunday. The weather was pretty gloomy all day. Such a huge change from the beautiful day we had enjoyed on Saturday. There was a really loud and scary storm in the afternoon. The house actually shook when the thunder roared. Then it rained and rained non-stop the whole night. It was a very low-key day and I spent most of it doing bits and pieces around the house. I watched a few more episodes of a British show called ‘In The Club’. It’s about a group of pregnant ladies who become friends through pre-natal classes. Oh my goodness the drama! I just love it! I made a quiche for dinner and we had that with leftover pasta and a salad. I’m looking forward to the rest of this week. I’m only rostered to work this Friday,

A Fantastic Week

Hi Friends, Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have all had a fantastic week and are super pumped for the weekend like I am. Our local Farmers’ market opened back up last weekend and so Steve and I will be heading there on Saturday. I am so excited about this, the only places I have been to for the last few months are work, supermarket, fruit shop, and petrol station. I am almost giddy thinking about doing something fun like this tomorrow. So let’s jump straight in and have a look at some of this week’s favourites! As usual, I am linking up with Andrea and Erika for today’s post. Number One Good news everyone lockdown is over and done with this Monday!! As much as I am dreading the mad pace of life and going back to full-time everything ( I may have even had a bit/a lot of anxiety about this). I am so excited to see my son and his lovely fiancee. They can finally visit so they are coming over next Saturday. It’s been about four months since the last time we got together and I can NOT wait. I will for sure be cooking all their favorites and may never let them leave ha! Number Two I was back at work three days this week and we had an extra couple of children attend preschool. There were a total of six! That’s the most we’ve had for fourteen weeks. It was so funny because I’m obviously not used to the noise level anymore. Preschool has been so quiet for so long. Not on Tuesday, it was noisy again just like it should be! It was so cute to watch the kids during the day, they moved around the preschool in a little pack of six all playing together. They made a rainbow slide out of large bricks. They also worked hard together in the sandpit and made a sand volcano. The teachers added bicarb to the crater, then the kids took turns pouring vinegar with food colouring into the volcano. Can you see how it fizzes up and looks like lava? Such a big hit with the children, they had so much fun! Number Three On Wednesday my little Sam turned 17. How did this even happen? My mumma heart can’t even process this. We had a delicious takeaway dinner from “El Jannah” per Sams request. It was so good. Yummy charcoal chicken, tabouleh, garlic dip, and chips. We also ordered a couple of Lebanese pizzas from another place. Mmmmm everything was just perfection and we even had leftovers for the next day and a half. Bonus! We had a Pavlova for Sam’s birthday cake. In September when my mum turned 93 I made a pineapple upside-down cake for her. But for his birthday Sam asked for his favourite a Pavlova. This was great for me because they are just so simple to put together. After being at work more days this week I didn’t have much time. Steve usually likes to cook the base from scratch but this year he’s been so busy working late that it was just easier if I bought the base from Woolworths. Doesn’t it look fancy! All I had to do was whip the cream, cut up the fruit and arrange it nicely on top of the base with cream. Done and done!! It was really delicious, super sweet but oh so good. Pavlova is my favourite too so I’m glad Sam chose this. Even if it’s a mid-week birthday I like to buy a bunch of balloons to decorate the house and then we usually have family over on the weekend to celebrate. This year with lockdown still on it was a different story. There was nowhere to buy balloons, but it was still fun to have a little celebration with just us. Number Four On Thursday I had to make a couple of batches of playdough at preschool. We had run out and with more kids coming soon we’ll definitely be making this on repeat like we usually do. This playdough is such a favourite, it’s really easy to make and doesn’t need to be cooked. It lasts ages in the fridge and the best part is that it is super soft. All the kids love it and so do we because it doesn’t leave a crumbly mess either. We used to make it using a different recipe but this one is definitely softer and much more malleable. When my own kids were little I always used to make playdough for them. They loved it and would spend ages playing with it. I found it so much better than the store-bought stuff plus it was way cheaper and lasted longer. If you have little kids I really encourage you to give them playdough to play with. It is not only fun and entertaining for them but it also has so many amazing learning benefits too. If you are looking for a playdough recipe, I guarantee your kids will love this one. Number Five Every year at preschool we have a tea towel fundraiser. The kids each draw a picture of themselves and we send all the pictures off to a company called Expressions Fundraising. They then print everyone’s picture onto a tea towel and the parents get to buy them. The parents love them and many buy extra to give to their family members for Christmas. Each year we ask some of the kids to draw the teachers. This is what I look like this year. I’ve got the tea towel with Sams’s picture on it from when he was at preschool and I treasure it. It is such a special reminder. I don’t have one from Luke because he went to a different preschool. I hadn’t started working at my current preschool back then. Makes me teary looking at this. Sigh! Look how he drew us. We both look like angry potatoes. This is the one from Sams

Whipped coffee

Whipped Coffee

Whipped Coffee was the hot trend last year. I was a bit late to the party because I only discovered it this year! Anyway better late than never right? What Is whipped Coffee? Well, apparently it is called Dalgona coffee in South Korea where it originated from. It became very popular during the lockdown in 2020 and was also known as  ‘quarantine drink’. People in South Korea began posting themselves making their own homemade versions of whipped coffee on YouTube under the hashtag #dalgonacoffeechallenge. It eventually went viral on TikTok and then spread worldwide. It is now the most popular type of coffee that is searched on Google. How Do You Make Whipped Coffee? Probably one of the reasons why it became so popular was because it was so simple to make with ingredients everyone has commonly at home. It takes next to no time, plus you only need instant coffee. It’s almost hard to believe that you don’t need any other complicated coffee, just instant. How good is that? So basically you just whip equal parts instant coffee, sugar, and hot water until you end up with a nice creamy coffee mixture. Easy peasy! Be Careful, It’s Addictive! This coffee drink is so delicious and just right for when the weather is warm like it is at the moment here in Sydney. It tastes like something you would pay a lot of money for at a cafe and it looks really fancy too with all the whipped creamy coffee sitting on top of the milk and ice. I made mine with low-fat milk and it was so good! You can also make it with regular milk too but I thought the low-fat version was better calorie-wise considering it does contain sugar. Speaking of sugar, Whipped Coffee is quite high in sugar.  So I try to only indulge in this as an occasional treat. It is really delicious and refreshing though and it is really nice to have it sometimes and that way it never loses its ‘specialness’. I think there are some sugar-free versions of Whipped Coffee where you add low-carb sweeteners instead of sugar. I might try this one day but for now, I am loving the sugar version of Whipped coffee but only occasionally. Instructions For How To Make Whipped Coffee I used a tall plastic cup and added the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water I bought this electric stick mixer from Kmart a few years ago. This was such a great buy only costing me $29.00. It comes with a variety of attachments and it’s fantastic to use for making this delicious coffee drink. I also use it to make my easy hummus because it comes with a perfect size attachment for puréeing. Whip for about two minutes until it is the right creamy consistency This is the colour it should be and what it should look like. Add Ice together with the cold milk Carefully spoon the creamy coffee on top of the ice and milk. Hmmm yummy and creamy, ready to drink! Ingredients 2 Tablespoons of Instant Coffee 2 Tablespoons of sugar 2 tablespoons of boiling water 1 cup of milk Ice Instructions Add instant coffee, sugar, boiling water in a bowl or tall cup Using a hand mixer whip at high speed for about 2 minutes Add ice to a glass of your choice add milk Spoon the whipped coffee on top of the milk and ice then stir Enjoy! Notes Any type of instant coffee works well. I used the Moccona Barrista Reserve Crema You can use different types of sugar such as granulated, white, brown, or raw If you are looking for a vegan Whipped Coffee option all you need to do is use almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, or soy milk. The easiest way to make Whipped Coffee is if you use an electric hand mixer or stick mixer like the one I used. But you can also make it by hand using a whisk. Word of warning though, it does take a whole lot longer. If you want more Whipped Coffee all you need to do is increase the ingredients but just make sure to keep the same ratio. Whipped Coffee can also be made as a hot drink, just warm up your milk first then add the coffee mixture over the top!

Simple Hacks For Busy Working Mums

I must start off by pointing out that all mothers are busy working mums whether or not they leave the house to go to work or they are stay-at-home mums. However, mums who go out to work face different challenges so hopefully these simple hacks for busy working mums will be helpful. I’m sure that you are probably already doing many of these hacks. But I think it’s always fun to do a refresh and maybe find some new and more efficient ways to get stuff done. So let’s jump right in and look at some simple hacks for busy working mums 1. Order Your Groceries Online Up until recently, I had gotten into the bad habit of going to the supermarket almost every afternoon after being at work all day. I always went to just “pick up a few things”. Well, the truth is that it was never just a few things! Then one day someone told me about Click and Collect and it changed my life! I am not exaggerating!! Now I order my groceries online and choose a convenient time slot for pick up. Then I usually swing by the supermarket at around 4 pm after work and get the groceries on the way home. This is a FREE service! My groceries are picked for me, then beautifully bagged all ready for me to collect in-store. I find that I don’t impulse buy anymore. Plus it’s also so much easier for me to meal plan and stick to a shopping list. I save time, energy, and money. So make use of services like this to help you. Of course, there is also home delivery and some stores offer direct to boot service, where your groceries get placed directly into your car. Sadly our local supermarket doesn’t offer that yet but I’ll be sure to use that if they ever do. 2. Freeze Meals I like to try and cook extra so I have enough to freeze another meal. So if for example, I am making lasagna, I will go ahead and make two and freeze one. Doing this makes life so much easier, especially on busy nights where you might have to rush out for after-school activities with the kids. I like to save those meals for when I know I am going to be home late because I have to attend an after-work staff meeting. I just pull out my meal the night before and let it defrost safely in the fridge during the day. Then when I get home I can just pop it in the oven. 3. Have A Good Morning Routine Getting out of bed early in the morning is such a huge challenge for me. I am not a happy, bouncy, ready-to-go morning person at all. But in order to stay on top of all the chores, I have made it a habit to get up at least an hour before everyone else. Groan!! 4. Pack Lunches The Night Before I know that after surviving the usual afternoon and evening rush the last thing you want to do is muck around with more food prep after dinner. But it is so well worth it because it will make life so much easier in the morning. Everyone can just grab their pre-made lunches out of the fridge before they leave for school or work. Preparing lunches the night before also means that you can delegate this as an evening chore where family members can pitch in and get this done quick smart. 5. Use A Slow Cooker My slow cooker was my best friend especially when my kids were younger. I would throw all the ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning then turn it on. When we got home dinner was done! Slow cooker meals are perfect for busy weeknights. 6. Do Laundry The Night Before To keep the laundry pile from getting out of control, do a load of washing before you go to bed. Then it’s ready to hang out in the morning. Some washing machines have a timer, which is such a fantastic feature. By setting the washing machine to start an hour before you wake up, the laundry will then be ready for you or another helpful family member to hang out or put in the dryer first thing. Then when you come home try and make it a habit to fold and put everything away so it’s all over and done with. Breaking down the laundry into an everyday chore means that you won’t have a mountain of it to deal with come the weekend. 7. Prepare The Clothes You Are Going To Wear In Advance This applies to your own clothes and everyone else’s clothes in the family. If you lay clothes out right down to socks and shoes the night before. You won’t be desperately trying to find clothing items in the mornings. If you prepare clothes the night before it will be so much easier to remember for example, whether or not your child needs to wear a sports uniform the next day. There’s nothing worse than remembering in the morning and then trying to find all the bits and pieces in a mad panic. (Been there, done that. It’s not fun) 8. Stick To A Weekday Cleaning Schedule This is my most helpful hack. I despise having to do the bulk of the cleaning on the weekends. So I make sure to do some cleaning every single working day. I try and get the majority of it done Monday to Friday. Then my big reward is having the weekends off. Realistically there is always something that needs doing even on weekends. But cleaning will not be one of them if you smash it all out during the week. 9. Meal Plan Meal planning is by far the best way to deal with the eternal “What’s for dinner tonight?” question. Consider making it a habit to set aside some time during the

Simple Gross Motor Activities For Your Child

Here are some fun and simple gross motor activities for your child that you can easily do at home with them. These activities can help equip your child with good gross motor skills which are important for them to be able to perform everyday tasks. What Are Gross Motor Skills? Gross motor skills are those which require movements of the whole body (arms, legs, and torso) to perform activities such as jumping, climbing and sitting. All of these activities are necessary for everyday life at school, work, or home. If gross motor skills are poor these tasks will be much more difficult to perform. Simple Gross Motor Activities For Your Child Different Types Of Animal Walking Using animals to practice gross motor skills is a fun and easy activity that can easily be done at home. Bear Walk- This is when the child walks using their hands and feet making sure their bottoms are up high just like a bear does when he walks. Penguin Walk- Ask kids to keep their arms straight down by their sides and waddle using their heels like a penguin. Crab walk- Children use their hands and feet to scuttle sideways. Make sure their hips are high off the ground so their core muscles get a good workout. Slide like A Snake– Children can lie on their stomachs with their arms to their sides. They then inch forward to ‘slide’ along the floor like a snake. Kangaroo Jump-  Kids keep their knees together with their hands perched up like a kangaroo. Encourage them to get down as low as they can and then spring forward. Set up An Obstacle Course At Home You can use the lounge room for this fun and beneficial activity. Use furniture rugs and pillows and get the kids to climb under over and around obstacles. Trampolines Trampolines will help your child to improve their balance. Mini trampolines at home are just as effective if there is not enough space for a regular-sized one in the backyard. Playing In The Park Find a park that has good, safe, and challenging equipment. Swinging on the swings can help children to improve and develop their balance. It will also help them with their coordination because they need to work on moving their legs back and forth at the same time as shifting their weight to be able to swing back and forth. Some parks also have equipment that encourages children to climb and use their trunk muscles. Wobble bridges and ladders where they have to swing like monkeys to get across the play equipment are not only fun but very effective for strengthening and developing gross motor skills. Ball Games Ball games such as kicking throwing and catching are excellent for coordination and gross motor skills. Tug Of War You can play this with your child by getting them to hold one end of the rope and you the other. The aim is then to try and pull each other over. Another great upper body and leg workout. Hopscotch This game is full of lots of jumping, hopping, and balancing. A fun and simple game with excellent benefits. Target Practice Set up a target for children to aim at and throw bean bags. Balance Beam Use masking tape to make a line on the floor and challenge your child to walk along the tape. Dancing Dancing is not only great fun it also gets children to practice balance and coordination as well as motor planning skills. They can dance freely or you can challenge them with following song movements like”Head, shoulders, knees, and toes”. See how fast they can go! Pulling and Pushing Wheelbarrows, Trucks, and pretend baby strollers are great for gross motor skills. You can even hold your child’s legs so they walk using their hands and they can be the wheelbarrow. Playing with Bubbles Children love chasing and popping bubbles. Trying to track down a bubble is not always easy and that’s great because it means children have to run, jump, dodge and make their way around shifting their balance. Riding Tricycles, Peddle Pushers and Bikes Perfect for working on core and leg muscles as well as improving coordination and strength. The Importance Of Gross Motor Skills Cognitive Development Participating in physical activities that encourage the development of gross motor skills can improve academic performance. Confidence and Self-Esteem Children with good physical ability will be more likely to engage in sporting activities. Sport helps children learn about participating in a game and the satisfaction of knowing the effort they have contributed. Good For Children’s Health Children practice their gross motor skills when they are involved in physical activities. This is beneficial for their flexibility, joints, bones, and muscles. As well as keeping children fit, maintaining a healthy weight and good posture. Ability to Assess Risk This is an important skill that children will carry on into adulthood. On A Final Note Activities such as these are simple and can be extremely beneficial for your child to develop good gross motor skills. Having good gross motor skills will help your child’s self-esteem, classroom learning, and overall health and well-being. 10 Simple Things You Can Do To Improve Your Skin

I thought it would be really helpful to look at 10 simple things you can do to improve your skin. These 10 simple tips are very easy to follow and they will not only help your skin look better, but they will also be very beneficial for your overall health. 10 Simple Things You Can Do To Improve Your Skin 1. Cleanse Your Skin It’s a good idea to find a cleansing routine that works for your particular skin type. Use a cleanser that won’t strip your face of moisture and your skin’s natural oils. Remember not to wash your face excessively because the last thing you want to do is to dry your skin out. Make sure to use warm water instead of hot water.  The best times to wash your face are first thing in the morning, right before you go to bed, and after you’ve worked up a sweat. 2. Wear Sunscreen Every day Keep your skin protected from harmful and aging UV rays by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. Don’t forget to put sunscreen on every morning regardless of whether it’s sunny outside or not. 3. Moisturise Your Skin If you moisturise your skin every day your skin will feel soft and hydrated. Moisturisers seal in the moisture especially if you apply it when your face is damp. 4. Eat Nourishing Food Eating a healthy diet is so important if you want a healthy clear complexion. Indeed there are many foods rich in nutrients that are very good for your skin. Some of these are Olive Oil Tomatoes Berries Spinach and other green leafy vegetables Fatty fish such as Salmon and Mackeral Nuts Avocados Stay away from Food or drinks high in processed or refined sugars Salty snacks White bread 5. Stay Hydrated Some research says drinking more water is good for your skin others say that it doesn’t have a big impact. The debate goes on however it’s important for our overall health to drink water and stay hydrated. Additionally, drinking too much water isn’t helpful either as you risk flushing out important minerals. So it’s probably safer to say stay hydrated rather than to say drink more water. 6. Reduce Stress Stress will negatively affect your whole body including your skin. Therefore it’s really important to try and keep stress under control. Some of the ways you can do this are by doing deep breathing, yoga, or meditation. 7.  Get a Good Nights Sleep Lack of sleep will make your eyes puffy and make your skin look dull and unhealthy. The skin repairs itself during the night while you sleep. So if you make sure to sleep the recommended 7-8 hours each night you will wake up feeling more refreshed. In addition to this, your skin will also look a whole lot better. 8. Avoid Alcohol When you drink alcohol it causes your body and skin to lose fluid. This can mean that your skin can become dry,  look wrinkled and dull. Therefore, avoiding alcohol will give you an all-around healthier appearance, it’s beneficial for your liver and you will gain that glowing radiant look. 9. Don’t Smoke Smoking is just bad news for your health full stop. Additionally, if you smoke you risk getting dry and saggy skin, baggy eyes, and deep wrinkles. The reason for this is that smoking deprives the skin of important things like oxygen and nutrients. 10. Stay Active The blood flow increases throughout the body when you exercise. This means that oxygen and nutrients get delivered to the skin. This in turn encourages collagen production and new skin cells. Thereby giving you glowing skin. Revving up your heart rate with activities like kung fu training or any form of HIIT isn’t just great for fitness—it’s also a secret weapon for your skin! These dynamic exercises get your blood pumping, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells giving you that healthy glow. So if you’re aiming to maximize the impact, these activities are the way to go! My Skincare Routine And Things I Need to Work On When it comes to my own skincare routine I like to keep things very basic. I usually just cleanse, wear sunscreen and moisturise. I know I should probably up my skincare game because I’m not getting any younger. There are definitely a few things that I need to re-evaluate, change and adjust. I don’t really like to spend too much money on anti-aging creams as I am conflicted about whether or not they actually work. Some experts say they do nothing, while others say they are backed by scientific evidence. One thing I am pretty certain of is this. I really think that diet, sleep, and exercise definitely play a very important role in how healthy your skin looks. So these are the areas that I really want to work on. My diet is usually pretty good, but since we’ve been in lockdown I know that I have for sure been overindulging in too many sweet and salty treats. Lockdown ends very soon and I am super motivated to get back on track with my eating and sleeping habits effective immediately. Skincare Products I am Currently Using I have just recently started using products from Sukin. I don’t receive any affiliates for this at all, I just thought I’d share with you what’s happening in my own skincare world. Before using Sukin I was quite happy with the Lacura range from Aldi. (Told you I’m not a big spender when it comes to skincare products!) I found the Aldi products to be really good. To cleanse my skin I used the Lacura Naturals Invigorating Exfoliating Facial Scrub.  For the daytime, I used the Lacura Science Renew Day Cream with SPF 15. For night time I used the Lacura Skin Science Renew Night Cream. All these products were great for me, they did the job and didn’t cause any irritations. I was very impressed with all of them. But just
