how to keep the spark alive in your relationship

How To Keep The Spark Alive In Your Relationship

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so it’s the perfect opportunity to show your special person just how much they mean to you. But it’s not just about the gifts, it’s also about how to keep the spark alive in your relationship. So today I have put together a few tips that we can all use to help keep our relationships strong and healthy. How To Keep The Spark Alive In Your Relationship Communicate Good communication would have to be the most important element in any relationship. So make time to listen to your partner, be open and honest and express how you feel. Communication is key to making sure to address any issues that come up. Keep in mind that consistent communication will keep your relationship strong. Long working days and the general busyness of everyday life can make it hard to keep the lines of communication open. Therefore sending texts to your partner throughout the day can be a simple and effective way to stay connected. A simple sweet message expressing affection is a great way to show love. And even a short message like “hey how’s your day” can show your partner that you are thinking of them. Be Polite Sometimes when you have been together forever. It can be easy to slip into the habit of taking each other for granted and forget to be polite. So don’t forget to say ” please” and “thank you”. And genuinely complimenting your significant other can go a long way in making them feel appreciated and valued. Being polite and respectful in your everyday interactions is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy and happy relationship. And will be sure to keep the spark alive in a relationship. Try New Things Together Plan some new activities that you can both experience together. This is a great way to keep things alive and exciting in a relationship. Remember back when you were first dating and you couldn’t wait for the next fun date that you had thoughtfully planned out? Keep the spark in your relationship by planning and exploring new experiences together. This is a great way to help bring you closer. And who doesn’t love having a fun date to look forward to? Keep The Romance Alive Holding hands or cuddling can help keep the spark alive by creating a sense of closeness and intimacy. Physical affection is an essential part of maintaining a strong emotional connection. Express Your Love To Your Partner In Their Love Language Showing your partner love in their love language is a meaningful way to make them feel valued and appreciated. If your partner’s love language is words of affirmation then compliment them or express your love through kind words. If their love language is physical touch then try giving them long warm hugs or holding their hand. If they appreciate acts of service and this speaks to their heart then do something that will make their life easier. For example, you could cook or clean for them. If your partner’s love language is gifts then surprise them with a meaningful token of your affection. Kindness Show your partner how much you care for them by surprising them with thoughtful gestures. Acts of kindness are the best way to intentionally communicate how much you love and appreciate them. Take A Trip Down Memory Lane Reliving some of your favourite moments together by looking at old photos and reminiscing about the good times. Is a sure way to reignite the spark in your relationship. Schedule Regular Date Nights Make time for each other and plan regular date nights. You can choose to go to a fancy restaurant, pack a picnic, or spend a cozy night at home. It really doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that you focus on each other and spend uninterrupted quality time together. And now for the fun part, Valentine’s Day gifts! If you are running short on time and ideas then get creative. Surprise your partner with a special date or a staycation. Spend the day together and do something that you both enjoy. Maybe a picnic, hike or even a cozy movie night at home. It doesn’t really matter what it is as long as you both spend time doing something you love. Cook a romantic meal together and enjoy dinner for two by candlelight. Give each other meaningful gifts that show how much you care. Write your partner a love letter or choose a cute card that they will appreciate. In conclusion, keeping the spark alive in a relationship takes effort and intentional actions from both partners. Whether it’s finding new ways to show love in your partner’s love language, trying new things together, or making time for each other by scheduling regular date nights. The key is to never stop investing in your relationship. So spend some time reflecting on what makes your relationship special and unique. And remember that a strong and healthy relationship needs ongoing attention and nurturing. Putting in the effort to keep the spark shining bright is so worth it!   Related Articles Stay-At-Home Date Night Ideas

salad for what I eat in a week post

How I Keep Healthy

Hi friends, I am really happy to be linking up with Shay and Erika for this month’s edition of “Let’s Look”. Today we are talking about how we all keep healthy. Thanks so much for stopping by to have a read, I always appreciate each and every one of you! And I am always so grateful for your comments. So let’s jump right in and look at how I keep healthy! Eat Healthy Food Thankfully I am not a fussy eater and I can pretty much eat anything. I love food and if I’m not eating, then I will probably be daydreaming about my next meal. Like I’ve said before I try to keep my diet pretty healthy during the weekdays. But then on the weekends, I am more than happy to indulge in some yummy (not so healthy) treats. During the week I will usually pack myself a salad for my work lunch. Then add some protein like tuna, grilled chicken breast slices, or a boiled egg. I also like to eat avocado and salmon because….hello high cholesterol!! I also have a piece of fruit in the mornings at around 11 am. We have a pretty strict healthy eating policy at preschool for the children. So I will always eat a piece of fruit with the kids when they have their morning “fruit break”. Doing this sets a good example for them and it’s healthy for me. Plus they always get very excited when they have the same fruit that I have!! They’re so cute! For dinner, I like to cook meals (usually from scratch) that will always include either a salad or vegetables. We don’t eat much take-away food and I am always conscious of nasty hidden additives and preservatives in ready-made sauces etc. That’s not to say that I never buy them because I do. Working full-time means that it’s a good idea to have a plan B. So I will keep a jar of some kind of ready-made sauce in the pantry just in case. I Keep Company With Good People I don’t like drama or gossip! So I make sure to stay well away. I have a few very good, kind, and treasured friends. I keep healthy by spending time with these friends, they make me laugh, we have fun, share similar interests, and we can count on each other during the hard times too. I Have The Necessary Check-Ups This one is a hard one for me as I DO NOT like going to the doctor. But I do go to get the necessary check-ups and yearly blood tests. Ugh!!! Self Care I really try hard to incorporate some self-care into my day. Whether it’s something small like taking time to enjoy a cup of tea, stretch or do some breathing exercises. If I am able to then I really like to set aside some time to indulge in things like doing my nails or spending twenty minutes on the lounge with a face mask on. Self-care is definitely one of my favourite things I do to keep healthy. Stay Active Working in a preschool means that I am active all day long! Which is a good thing because I don’t go to the gym. I used to do Zumba which I absolutely loved but I don’t anymore because our fun instructors stopped holding the classes about two years ago. I can’t seem to sit still for very long and I am always doing something around the house. I like to have music playing when I’m doing my chores. If I’m home alone then I like to bust out and do some dance moves while I’m cleaning. Haha, but that’s only if I’m home alone!! Last term I started walking home from work. But that was only out of necessity because we were down to one car after my husband had an accident. I’m on winter break at the moment but I think that when I go back to work I will make sure to walk there and back more often. It’s a good twenty-five-minute walk and I found that I did enjoy it a lot last term. Be Sun Smart I also keep healthy by making sure to wear sun protection. The children at preschool have to wear a hat when they are playing in the playground and so do the staff. I wear a wide-brimmed hat, apply sunscreen and try to remember to wear my sunglasses all year round. I really want to avoid harmful UV light that can lead to nasty things like cataracts and macular degeneration. Drink Water I try really hard to make sure that I drink enough water! It’s a challenge and some days I am better at it than others. But I do try! I Brush And Floss Nothing feels better than a nice fresh mouth with clean teeth. I make sure that I brush morning and night as well as floss daily. Up until last year, I had no cavities and I was very happy with myself. But then a dentist check-up revealed that I had one small cavity…boo!!! ********** These are some of the things that I do or try to do to keep healthy. I’m sure that I could do plenty more. There is always room for improvement and I look forward to hearing any suggestions or comments. I really hope you have a great day and stay healthy! 😊

candle for ten winter essentials post

Ten Winter Essentials

My Ten Winter Essentials! This week has been so cold, rainy, and windy! It was raining so hard the other day when I got home, I had to put up my big umbrella just to get out of the car and go inside the house. I was trying to save my hair from getting wet and frizzy because you know…….#priorities. Well, I kid you not when I say that I nearly got blown away!! It was actually funny and I couldn’t stop laughing, I was holding on for dear life, getting blown here there, and everywhere. I must have looked like a nut!! Aussie Winters I know that compared to many other countries. Australian winters are actually quite mild. Recently I saw a news article about a TickToker who thought it was hilarious seeing Aussies wearing The North Face jackets and woolen coats when it was 16C and sunny. Well, I was one of those ones wearing a wooly coat and gloves! I wasn’t laughing, I was freezing!! The thing about Australian winters is that it’s just three long months of being cold and this year very wet, thanks to La Niña. We also don’t have a fun festive season to look forward to either like they do in the Northern Hemisphere. I mean we sometimes celebrate Christmas in July but it’s just not the same. So I’m not a big fan of winter and I much prefer summer. I also haven’t yet found my love for “all things fall” or Autumn as we call it. Give me warm spring or even better, hot summer temperatures all year long! My husband thinks I’m crazy, he can’t stand the heat. Winter Essentials To Beat The Cold This year I am working on being more positive about winter even though this past week has been extra challenging because the weather is just so miserable. Plus, according to the bureau of meteorology, we have ten more days of solid rain coming up. Sigh! Anyway, enough whinging! I am trying really hard to focus on the nice things about winter because there are many. This year I am determined that winter is going to be all about being cozy and not just about being cold!! So I have put together a list of my ten winter essentials. These ten winter essentials are actually helping me to enjoy the winter months this year. And I thought that if you are anything like me and struggle with the cold weather. Then you might hopefully find this list helpful. 1. Nice Steamy Hot Drinks Find a mug you love. This year I am using a cute pink mug that my cousin gave me and it makes me so happy. I love the size, the chunkiness of it, and how I can wrap my hands around it to warm them up when I am drinking something hot. Yes, I really am having a love affair with my special mug this winter. Once you have found a mug that you really love then all your winter drinks will taste so much more satisfying. Trust me! Another thing that I have been doing is enjoying some of my favourite go-to hot drinks like Herbal Teas Camomile- for calmness and relaxation Ginger and Tumeric- The ginger adds an element of spice and mild heat. While the lemon tea is full of delicious citrus zing. Recently I was fighting off a cold and these teas were so soothing. Chai- Chai tea is my favourite winter tea. It’s so comforting to drink a delicious steamy cup of chai tea on a cold day. I really love the gorgeous aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cardamom. Mmmmmm!!! Hot Chocolate Winter is a perfect time to enjoy hot chocolate! I usually just use the Jarrah sachets but I recently discovered Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate sachets and oh my word. They are just divine!! Coffee I prefer tea but some mornings I like a cup of Moconna coffee with a splash of milk. If I feel like adding some sweetener to my coffee then I will add a dash of hazelnut syrup. I also really like these Moconna cappuccino sachets. They are creamy and velvety with just the right amount of froth. 2. Invest In Warm Clothes For years I shivered through playground duty in the coldest playground ever! I layered up but only ever wore a short thin hooded jacket over the top. And it just wasn’t enough. This year I was determined to find a more appropriate jacket. I thought about buying a down jacket from Uniqlo but I wasn’t too keen on the style or the price. Luckily I managed to find a really nice long Calvin Klein jacket this year. It has a nice shape as it inches slightly at the waist. But aside from how cute I think it looks, this jacket has quite literally changed my life. It is just so warm!!! Playground duty doesn’t make me want to cry this year. Because when I wear my jacket I feel like I’m wearing a quilt! 3. Enjoy Comfort Food I love cooking up delicious comfort food like beef stews, chicken casseroles, cottage pies, roasts with creamy mashed potatoes, veggies, and lots of gravy. Soups are also great for lunch or dinner, especially pumpkin soup! I truly think that probably the best thing about winter is all the delicious comfort food you can cook up and enjoy!! 4. Light Candles Lighting candles just cheers me up! So candles are one of the most important winter essentials for me. I love a scented candle, tea lights, or even just a plain old white candle. It starts to get dark outside at around 5 pm so that’s usually the time when I start lighting some candles. A couple of years ago I bought some candles from Pottery Barn and these clever battery-operated candles have a timer. I have set them so they automatically turn on every afternoon at 4.30 pm. 5. kindness counts t-shirt for why it's important to be kind post

Why Kindness Is Important- 10 Ways To Be Kinder

I recently lost my mum and I am so sad. Some days I can’t shake off my sadness and other days I can thankfully make it through the day. In the weeks leading up to her passing when she was first diagnosed as terminal and then in the many weeks after she passed. I have been shown so much kindness and it has left me feeling really humbled. It has also made me stop and think about why kindness is important. This period in my life is really making me re-evaluate and question myself and my actions towards others. How kind am I? What can I do to show kindness to others? How can I ever express how truly grateful I am to my many friends and family who have showered me with kindness. How?? I guess the only answer I can come up with is…..”Do unto others” “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the law and the prophets”  Matthew 7:12 There Are Many Benefits To Being Kind Indeed there are many benefits to being kind. Some of these are You will develop more friendships Being kind may have many important health benefits such as lowering inflammation, boosting your immune system, and may reduce blood pressure. Showing kindness can be good for your mental health as acts of kindness can reduce anxiety. Being kind may even mean you live longer It’s great that showing kindness towards others can have many important benefits. BUT I think that real kindness needs to come from a selfless attitude. I think we all need to be kind just because it’s important to be kind. Full stop. Kindness should come naturally and it should be our first instinct. It’s so easy to be kind to the sweet but not so easy to be kind to the sours of this world. You know the ones I mean. The people who cut you off when you’re driving. The ones who push in front of you at the supermarket. The grumpy, rude, mean-spirited people we come across in our everyday life. Yep, it’s not easy to be kind to them, sigh! Why Are People So Unkind? I have a really sweet friend who has an amazing ability to see things from the point of view of others. I have learnt a lot from her. She has this gift of understanding why people behave the way they do. On many occasions, I have expressed my irritation to her about certain people’s behaviour and she has gently explained that maybe they are going through a rough time. Sometimes people are unkind because… They Are Afraid Of Change Sometimes people who are afraid of change can feel threatened and not in control. And this can cause them to behave in a mean way. They Have Poor Self Esteem When people are brought up to believe that they are not good enough, they can often behave rudely as a way of trying to prove to others that they deserve to be seen and respected. They Feel Vulnerable If people have been abused in their lives. They may feel the need to act tough and aggressive in order to squash any feelings of vulnerability. They May Have Personal Problems Sometimes people may have personal problems that are causing them to feel incredibly anxious and overwhelmed. Anxiety can make people lash out in anger or cause them to behave rudely or in a  controlling manner. How Can We Be Kinder There are many ways we can all be kinder. All it takes is a conscious decision and a change of mindset. We can CHOOSE to be kind no matter what. Here are some suggestions for ways we can be kinder. Kinder to others, kinder to ourselves, and even kinder to our world. 1. Smile! This is an easy starting point on your journey to be kinder. Just give someone a friendly smile next time you are at the shops, going for a walk, or running an errand. Years ago I was at the supermarket and I had just been to the doctor who had given me some very welcomed news. I was pregnant! And I was so happy that I couldn’t stop smiling. I smiled at an elderly gentleman in the Dairy aisle and he said to me words I will never forget. He said,” Thank you so much for smiling at me, you have no idea how much that meant to me”. I was taken aback, firstly I was glad that he appreciated my smile but then I felt almost felt guilty because my smile came from my own good news. Would I have smiled at him if I hadn’t received this news? I hope so. 2. Surprise someone with a visit or phone call Don’t assume that people are too busy, go ahead and visit or make that phone call. Just to be sure you’re not interrupting or catching someone at a bad time you could always send them a quick text beforehand. Then they will be able to let you know if it’s a good time or not. They will also be happy to know that you are thinking of them and you might even be able to reschedule for another time. 3. Use a kind voice Always try and use a kind voice, even if sometimes you might have to fake it because that person is irritating you. At least you know that you tried and I have found that on many occasions a kind word can turn away anger. 4. Drop off a care package During COVID lockdown I had some friends drop me off care packages. I thanked them profusely but I don’t know if they will ever fully know how much I appreciated this and how truly grateful I am for their kind gesture. 5. Drop off a meal When my mum was dying in hospital, the last thing I felt like doing was cooking

What I Eat In A Week

I’m really excited to be linking up with Shay and Erika for this month’s Let’s Look. Today’s topic is “What you eat in a week” How fun! I’m always down to talk about food! So let’s jump right in and let me share with you what my week looks like when it comes to what I eat. Breakfast Ok, confession time. Monday to Friday I am not a breakfast eater at all. My husband and son do eat breakfast but not me. In fact, I feel sick even thinking about food early in the morning. This always stressed my mum when I was growing up and so she would make me smoothies just so that I wouldn’t go to school on an empty stomach. I remember gulping them down fast just to get them over and done with. They were really delicious too! Silly teenage me, how I wish for those years back. Anyway, not much has changed and I still don’t like to eat anything in the morning before I go to work. Instead, I have a coffee at around 9 and then eat a piece of fruit at around 10.30. This is the time when I sit down with the kids at preschool for our morning “Fruit Break”. Morning coffee at preschool in a glittery pink cup On The Weekends Now when it comes to the weekends it is a completely different story. I am more than happy to eat a big breakfast at around 10 am which is usually the time when I start to feel hungry. We like to have what my son calls “A Full English Breakfast”. We have scrambled eggs, hash browns (not sure these are English), bacon, sausages, mushrooms, toast, and tomatoes. Now we don’t have this every weekend but we do have it often. Ha, I remember telling my friend about my weekend breakfast and she started turning green just thinking about it. I guess it’s not for everyone! If we don’t have a “Full English Breakfast” we sometimes have pancakes with fruit and maple syrup or my delicious apple and berry gluten-free loaf with more berries, or Greek yogurt and a nice drizzle of honey. So good!! Lunches I try to keep things pretty healthy during the week so all I will usually take to work is a salad and a small can of tuna. Sometimes if we have leftovers, then I will pack a small portion of whatever it is to go with my salad. Other times I will have toast with vegemite and avocado. Or just plain avocado on toast. Dinner I have started meal planning again this year and this is what I always do at the beginning of every year. However, I have been known to slacken off and then I find that I’m scrambling to think of what to cook for dinner. Sometimes I even ask my little preschoolers what they think I should cook. I do it more as a joke because they think this is hilarious. Teachers don’t cook dinner they say!! Usually, they will suggest chicken nuggets or pizza. Ha! not very healthy, but yummy though!! So now that I am super determined to stick to my meal plan. Working out what to cook every night is so much easier and this is what we have eaten over the last few days Teriyaki Salmon with rice and coleslaw Fall apart roasted pork Pan-fried Barramundi, chips and salad Chicken Schnitzel with vegetables and gravy Lasagna Eating Out We don’t eat out weekly but on the first Monday of every month, we get together with a group of friends and have dinner at our local RSL club. I love these nights, such a great way to start the working week. Mondays don’t feel so bad when I know it’s our monthly get-together. It just so happens that we had our Monday night dinner just two nights ago. We usually eat out for special occasions like birthdays or date nights with my husband. My birthday is coming up soon and I’ve requested that we go out to my favourite Italian restaurant, Cappano Trattoria Bar and Grill. They have the most delicious fettucine marinara with lots of seafood. Huge tomahawk steaks are on the menu too! I’m really looking forward to this!! Snacks I love chips!! but I leave these for the weekend. The same goes for chocolate, soft drinks, and donuts. I mean I don’t eat all of this every weekend. But if I do eat snacks, it will usually be on the weekends. Friday after work I sometimes stop off at the shops to pick up a sweet treat for the family. It’s just a nice way to end the working week and a fun Friday afternoon tradition. I Love salt and vinegar chips!! Snack-size Kit Kats are safer. Stops me from eating a whole block Bundaberg ginger beer is a Friday night must!! Cheese!!! Usually, every Tuesday night when my husband is off work, we will enjoy some cheese, crackers, and maybe dip with a glass of wine. I just love cheese and I could eat it all day long. I think Havarti and Brie are probably my favourites. The only cheese I can’t do is blue cheese.     I guess that probably wraps up what I eat in a week and now my stomach is growling and I’m feeling hungry! Thanks so much for stopping by and I really do hope that you have the best Wednesday!

how to stay positive in a negative world

How To Stay Positive In A Negative World

Some days staying positive can be much easier than other days. You might do all you can to start your morning with a positive frame of mind. Then you find that your first interaction of the day, whether it is with a family member, work colleague, or even a stranger sets you off. Bam! Your positive bubble pops and you feel deflated, annoyed and the whole day is a struggle. So what are some things you can do to avoid this from happening to you? Here are a few tips for how to stay positive. Even on those days when you find yourself surrounded by negativity. 11 Simple Strategies For How To Stay Positive 1. Choose To Be Positive Positive thinking is a choice. Therefore we can choose to be positive in any given situation or moment. But firstly, we need to rewire our brains and make it a habit to respond in a positive manner whenever we are faced with negative situations or challenges. It is impossible to control everything in our lives and really the only thing we can control is how we choose to respond. We can choose to get down and pessimistic or we can choose to be calm, and optimistic. 2. Limit The Amount Of Negative News In Your Life Staying up to date with what’s happening is important, but try not to spend too much time on the news via TV, radio, or the internet. These days, scary, attention-grabbing headlines are everywhere and can rattle even the most resilient and positive people. 3. Surround Yourself With Positive And Loving People Make sure to surround yourself with positive people who will lift you up and bring comfort and joy to your life. Try and minimise contact with those who are always in a bad mood, gossiping about others, or looking at the negative in everything. Negativity is contagious and unfortunately, if you spend any length of time with people who are like this. You will catch their negativity too. 4. Practice Gratitude Practicing gratitude has so many benefits. Being grateful makes you feel positive emotions such as happiness. It improves your health and helps you build strong long-lasting relationships. As well as reducing stress and anxiety. You could get into the habit of taking the time each day to stop for a moment and think about the things that you are thankful for. Or you could have a gratitude journal where you jot down daily three things that you are grateful for and why. It is almost impossible to be negative if you have a grateful attitude. 5. Look For The Positive In Life Life can be challenging and messy. It is very difficult to be positive when you are facing obstacles and problems. However, try and focus on the blessings in disguise no matter how tiny they may be. Do take time to process your thoughts and feelings about the challenges you are facing. Once you have done this then it will be easier to find positive opportunities from these adverse situations. 6. Laugh If you have had a particularly tough day try and stay positive and upbeat by turning to laughter. It is easier to leave behind the worries of the day when you get lost in humour. You could watch an episode of your favorite comedy. Maybe ring or message a friend who is sure to bring a smile to your face. Laughter is great therapy as it reduces stress and anxiety. It will instantly boost your mood and help you cope better as well as helping to improve your self-esteem! 7. Practice Positive Self Talk Self-talk refers to the thoughts that are constantly running through your head. If your thoughts are constantly negative then the way you view life will probably be quite pessimistic. However, if you can control the negative self-talk and replace it with motivating and productive self-talk then your confidence will increase making it easier to wipe away any negative feelings. Remember to talk to yourself as you would talk to a friend. With kindness, compassion, and encouragement! 8. Have Something To Look Forward To Having something to look forward to acts like ammunition to fight against negativity. Thinking about something positive that you are excited about will diffuse the negative effects of a bad day. It’s fun to look forward to big weekend plans. But if you find that you don’t have any then looking forward to something simple is just as beneficial. For example, you could think about having a nice warm bath or shower at the end of the day. Followed by reading a good book or curling up in front of the TV. Think of anything that makes you happy and takes the focus away from any negative vibes. 9. Practice Self Care Practicing self-care by exercising, eating, and sleeping well will have a huge impact on how you deal with any negative situations that you may come across in your day. It is much easier to think clearly and have a more positive outlook when you are well-rested and not “hangry”. 10. Don’t Take Things Personally Sometimes people who behave in a controlling, negative manner are in fact feeling anxious, fearful, and insecure themselves. They may be dealing with difficulties in their personal lives or they may even be struggling with health issues. It is so hard not to take their behaviour personally, but it’s important to remind yourself that the way they act towards others is really about them and has nothing to do with you. 11. Be a Good Citizen Online Stay positive and make a real difference by being a good citizen online, just like you are in real life! Join online conversations with kindness and encouragement. Your uplifting words can change the tone of debates and set a new, positive standard for everyone. Great internet services, like nbn® Home Fast, keep you connected, but what really matters is how you use them. By bringing respect and positivity to

hang out with friends for a more relaxed life

How To Live A More Relaxed Life

We all want to live a more relaxed life, however, this is not always easy. Life can be very fast-paced, hectic, and generally very stressful. It is very important for our well-being that we try to aim to adjust things in our lives that may be causing us unnecessary anxiety or pressure. This will not only benefit us but also those who live with us. It is extraordinarily hard to live with someone who is constantly stressed and wound up. Nobody can relax when this is the case. So consider some of the following points so that you can live a more relaxed life. Declutter Decluttering your environment is a great step in reducing your levels of stress. When you do away with clutter you will feel much calmer and in control of your life. Living in a tidy and organised space will allow your mind to relax and you will feel overall much happier. Excercise Exercise helps your brain to produce the “feel good” neurotransmitter known as Endorphines. Certainly, there is a real sense of well-being and elation after a good challenging workout. Therefore people who engage in regular exercise will generally feel calmer and more relaxed. Exercise is good for your physical well-being as it improves blood flow and oxygen to your body. Additionally, it is also very beneficial for your mind as it can distract you from your troubles. As a result, when you are exercising you are concentrating on your body and not focusing on what is going through your mind. Hang Out With Kind Supportive Friends Surround yourself with supportive friends who understand and appreciate you. Find those friends who want to see you happily living your best life and stick with them! Get Adequate Sleep Try to get to bed at a decent time so that you sleep enough hours to rejuvenate your mind and body. Sleep is vital for our health as it is during sleep when the body repairs itself. Treat Yourself with Simple Pleasures Think of simple things that you really enjoy doing and that make you feel joyful and relaxed. Perhaps it might be taking a nice long undisturbed shower, reading a good book, watching a favourite movie, or listening to music. Whatever it may be try and make sure you sprinkle some of these pleasures into your everyday life. Smile And Laugh More Being able to enjoy moments of laughter especially when you are going through very anxious and stressful times works like a release. Eat Healthily Eating a healthy diet will increase your energy levels and general well-being. Stay away from junk food and eat a healthy well-balanced diet from a variety of food groups. Make sure you are getting enough vitamin D as this can impact your mood. If your vitamin D levels are low your body may feel achy, tired, and stressed. Try and get out in the sunshine and eat foods that are rich in Vitamin D such as salmon, egg yolk, and sardines. Decline The Drama We all know people who just love to create and promote drama. Unfortunately, when you are around these kinds of people on a daily basis it can be easy to get caught up in it. Drama is not healthy so be more inclined to resist joining in for a more relaxed life. Practice Gratitude Being grateful for what we have daily is the best way to stop focusing on whatever is making us stressed and anxious. Try and be grateful even for the tiniest blessings and resist the attitude of taking things for granted. Perhaps begin each morning by being grateful for something and end the day in the same way. Live In The Present Try not to worry about the future, this is probably one of the hardest things to do especially if you are prone to catastrophizing! We need to remember that the future is completely out of our control. So try and bring your mind into the present when it starts to wander into the scary future. There is a direct correlation between living in the present and living a more relaxed life. Visualise Your Troubles Away When you begin to feel your anxiety rising about a certain situation. Picture yourself getting as far away as possible from the trouble that is unsettling you. Forgive It is almost impossible to live a relaxed life if you harbor a grudge or choose to not forgive someone. Unfortunately, you are only hurting yourself when you don’t forgive and move on. Take A Day Off From Complaining Pick a day and make a big effort to resist the urge to whinge and complain. This is certainly no easy task. However, if you catch yourself every time you are about to complain and turn it around to focus on a positive thought. You will be on your way to training your mind to dwell on the positives rather than the negatives. Practice Self Care Practicing self-care is also very beneficial for living a more relaxed life. Self-care is important for our health, happiness, and general well-being.

Self-Care Tips That Will Change Your Life

Self-care is extremely important so that we can function daily as the best version of ourselves. We all live extremely busy lives working, studying, looking after children, partners, elderly parents, doing housework and chores, etc. Therefore it’s vital that we remember to practice self-care and not put ourselves at the bottom of our long list of those we care for. Self-Care What is Self-Care? Before we start I thought we should look at what self-care is exactly. I used to think it meant hour-long bubble baths and all-day spa visits. Whenever someone mentioned self-care I would instantly find myself thinking “Who on earth has any time for that?”. But no I was totally wrong, self-care isn’t that at all. The definition of self-care is “the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress” Oxford Dictionary Simply put, it just means we need to do beneficial things for our minds and bodies which will help us be healthier and happier. I’m definitely all for that. So let’s have a look at some simple self-care tips that we can all practice- Go For A Walk Walking is a time when you can be completely by yourself. It doesn’t have to be a long walk, it can be 10 minutes or it can be 30 minutes. This is a perfect time to clear your head and also get a bit of exercise. Journal Spend some time writing down your thoughts and feelings. It can be extremely liberating to write these emotions down on paper. It’s also great for our mental health to practice gratitude so you could take the opportunity to include in your journal a list of things you are thankful for each day. I love using pretty coloured gel pens and stickers to decorate my journal. I find this super motivating and a fun little creative outlet that doesn’t take much time at all. Listen To Your Favourite Music Play some music that you find uplifting. Maybe a song with powerful motivating words. I like Whitney Houston’s “One Moment In Time”. This is such a booster of a song and one that inspires faith and courage. I love belting out the lyrics (sorry neighbours). You could also listen to music from your high school years and have your own dance party. Release those endorphins and you will find yourself feeling instantly happier. Enjoy Your Favourite Drink Sip on your favourite relaxing tea, cosy hot chocolate, or refreshing juice. Whatever it is just make sure you sit down and take your time to enjoy it. No chugging! Have A Nap Listen to your body when it’s telling you it’s tired. Don’t keep pushing on, put any guilt aside and lie down for a nap. You will wake up feeling refreshed and it will do wonders for your health. Naps can boost memory, lift your mood and make you feel less stressed and irritable. Catch Up With A Friend Make time to engage with friends as often as you can. You can sit in a park and chat, go to a coffee shop, or enjoy some retail therapy. It can be an all-day activity or just a catch-up for an hour or so. Having friends you can share life with is so important for your well-being and health. Good friends bring you comfort and joy, they can help relieve stress and have huge benefits for your mental health and general happiness. Breathe You can take a few minutes to practice breathing exercises anywhere. Take some deep breaths inhaling slowly and deeply through your nose then exhaling through the mouth. Relaxing your shoulders and jaw. This is one of the best ways to lower your stress levels. It’s amazing how important it is to be aware of how you are breathing. Unfortunately, it’s incredibly easy to forget the importance of breathing and slip into bad habits like holding your breath when you are stressed or anxious. I know that this is what I tend to do. Recently I invested in a smartwatch and discovered that it has a super helpful feature. It actually leads me through short simple breathing exercises throughout the day. Eat Well Have you ever found yourself just slapping together something to eat on the run that may not contain many health benefits? Consider taking the time to make sure you eat nutritious food that will fuel your body. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and don’t forget to drink water. Don’t Try To Be Perfect This is a hard one especially now with social media. We have to be a bit more realistic and realise that what we see on Instagram etc is just a snapshot. It’s a tiny minuscule fraction of someone’s life that may or may not be staged. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to anyone neither in real life nor from what we see on social media.   We are all doing the best we can and we have to give ourselves grace and remember that some days are going to be better than others. Perfect people don’t exist. Do Your Nails You can splurge on a manicure and pedicure or do your nails yourself. Find a time when you can enjoy doing this without any interruptions. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending time on your nails and then have to attend to something that ruins all your careful work. Choose a fun coloured nail polish that will put a smile on your face. Alternatively, if you don’t feel like wearing nail polish you can just trim and buff your nails. It’s always satisfying to see nice healthy nails when you look at your hands. Go Somewhere Quiet and Peaceful Visit a place that you find relaxing like the beach or a park. You could also visit an art gallery, museum or library. Find somewhere that makes you happy and make a date to go there with yourself, your partner, or a friend. Stretch This will make
