My Top 10 Sweet Tooth Cravings

Hi friends! It’s time to join the Share Our Lives link-up and chat about sweet tooth cravings! When it comes to cravings, I’ve always considered myself more of a savoury girl. I can tuck into a platter of cheese, olives, salami and crackers like a champ! I am usually more than happy to choose savoury treats over a slice of cake (especially chocolate cake) any day! But I have to admit, there are a few sweet treats that I can’t resist. Because even this savoury snacker has more than an occasional sugar craving. So, here are my top sweet cravings from someone who’s in denial about being a sweet tooth! Top 10 Sweet Tooth Cravings 1. Chocolate  I can’t resist Cadbury hazelnut chocolate or any chocolate that has nuts in it. If I’m going to enjoy some chocolate, it definitely needs to include a nut—whether it’s hazelnut, cashews, or peanuts—yum! But I also have a couple of non-nut chocolates I love and these are Flakes and Cherry Ripes. Oh yes, and I love Dark Chocolate too (with red wine!) 2. Créme Caramel I absolutely love crème caramel, and it’s my go-to dessert whenever I see it on a menu. My aunt, who lived to be 104, gave me a simple recipe for it years ago. I don’t make it often, but I really should because it’s not that hard. In true South American style, the recipe calls for a dash of this and that, but it lacks clear measurements and cooking times, so I always have to take a few chances. It usually turns out delicious, but I often leave it in the oven too long, which makes the consistency not as smooth as I’d like. Figuring out the recipe properly is definitely on my to-do list! 3. Creamy Rice Pudding My mum used to make the best creamy rice pudding (again with the dash of this and that method). I’ve tried to copy it, but I’ve had no luck. Earlier this year, I discovered Wicked Sister Creamy Rice Pudding when I accidentally received a small bag from someone else’s online shopping order. Since we can’t send back wrong orders, I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did! That order also had a couple of other sweet things, like frozen yoghurt, which we now buy regularly as well. Whoever ordered it had good taste and a serious sweet tooth because everything was so good! Now, I buy rice pudding occasionally as a treat, and it tastes very similar to my mum’s, which is surprising, especially since it’s not homemade. 4. Frozen Yoghurt Thanks to the online shopping mix up, I also love frozen yoghurt. It’s lighter than ice cream and has just the right amount of sweetness. If I’m going to enjoy something sweet, I definitely like it to be really sweet! 5. Apple Pie and Ice Cream This classic combo is pure bliss, whether it’s winter or scorching summer. Who cares about the weather? I can eat apple pie and ice cream any time of the year! 6. Snake Lollies My favourite ones are from the Natural Confectionary Company because they’re healthy—only kidding, they just taste better than the other brands. 7. Whipped Coffee Coffee with a thick, creamy layer of whipped goodness on top? Yes, please! I love the combination of strong coffee and the sweet, fluffy texture. So good! 8. Nougat It’s almost that time of year when Aldi starts rolling out all their Christmas sweet treats! Any day now, I’ll be able to grab some of that delicious cranberry, pistachio, and cherry nougat. It’s been a long eleven months without it! 9. Iced Doughnuts I’m all about the strawberry iced doughnuts. I don’t mind the chocolate ones, but nothing beats that pink strawberry glaze! Every time I have something with strawberry flavouring, it makes me feel like a kid again. 10. Strawberries Dipped In Chocolate Hmmmm, the way the sweet, ripe strawberry bursts in your mouth once you crunch through the layer of Cadbury (it has to be Cadbury) chocolate is just heavenly! And there we have my top 10 sweet tooth cravings! Sticky, sweet, and downright delicious treats that somehow always tempt me, even though I think I’m a savoury girl at heart. quick weeknight dinners

Quick Weeknight Dinners

Hey, everyone! It’s time for another Let’s Look link-up with Shay and Erika, and today we’re sharing some Quick Weeknight Dinners. I love to keep things as simple and stress-free as possible during the week. My top tip? Plan your meals and have your grocery order sorted! The weeks when I do both of these, I feel like I’m winning. So, if you’re looking for some easy and quick weeknight dinners to get you through those busy nights, I’ve got some go-to recipes that might have just managed to save my sanity many times! Plus I’ll also share some tips on how to turn these dishes into versatile meals that can do more than just get you through dinner. Quick Weeknight Dinners Italian Meatballs These classic Italian meatballs are a quick, comforting weeknight dinner. You can serve them with spaghetti, rice or mashed potatoes and a side salad or veggies (you should always eat your veggies!). You can even enjoy the meatballs with garlic bread or plain bread to scoop up all the delicious sauce! Any leftovers can be tossed into a bread roll for a tasty meatball sub for lunch the next day. Or, if you’ve got more than you can use, freeze them for future meals—they reheat beautifully! If you are really in a hurry you can always buy the meatballs either frozen or pre-packaged. Then simply add your favourite sauce, either homemade or from a bottle….no judgement here! 😊 Turkey Bolognese If your family isn’t keen on beef mince, this turkey bolognese is a great alternative. It’s rich, hearty, and goes perfectly with pasta or even a baked potato if you want something a bit different. Even my non-bolognese-loving family will eat this. Quick Quiche A quick quiche is perfect for those days when you need something easy and satisfying. You can throw in whatever veggies or cheese you have on hand, and it’s ready in no time. It’s great for dinner and even better as leftovers for breakfast or a light lunch the next day. This recipe is great because it uses frozen pastry. Either shortcrust or puff pastry works fine. Easy Lasagna Lasagna might seem like a weekend project, but with a simple recipe like this one, it can be a satisfying weeknight dinner. You can also make it ahead of time and just pop it in the oven when you’re ready. Mediterranean Couscous This dish looks impressive and it’s a breeze to make. I love it because it’s full of colourful and healthy ingredients like olives, capsicum, zucchini, chickpeas, tomatoes, and fresh herbs. It’s fantastic as a side or a light main course – just add some grilled chicken and sprinkle cubes of feta! If you’ve got leftovers, they’re great for a quick lunch the next day Stir Fry Stir fry is one of my go-to meals when I need something quick and healthy. It’s a fantastic way to use up any leftover veggies from the fridge. Just toss in whatever protein you’ve got, and if you don’t have time to make your own sauce it’s more than ok to use a ready-made sauce (who’s gonna know?). Serve it over rice or noodles throw on some cashews, chopped spring onions and coriander for crunch and you’re done! Tuna Patties These tuna patties are the best!  They’re easy to make, and you can serve them with a side salad or in a burger bun. They also freeze well, so you can make a batch and have them on hand for a quick meal. Greek-Style Chicken This is a super easy option for busy nights. Simply pop the chicken in a zip-lock bag, season with herbs like oregano add some lemon juice, and a few other ingredients and bake. It cooks quickly in the oven and goes perfectly with rice, couscous, or even pita bread for a quick wrap. Plus, it’s packed with flavour and satisfying without being complicated. I’ll share the recipe soon—it’s been on my to-do list for a while. Opa! Roasted Fall-Apart Pork Although this isn’t a 30-minute meal, it’s definitely worth the effort due to its versatility. Make it in advance, and future you will thank yourself! The pork is incredibly tender and can be used in various ways. Enjoy it as a main dish one night, then shred the leftovers for tacos or sandwiches. You could even get creative and turn it into a chilli by adding beans, tomatoes, onions, and spices. The flavours are even better the next day, making it perfect for meal prep. Spinach Pie This pie is a winner for both dinner and lunch. It’s satisfying, healthy, and flavourful. Make it ahead of time, and you’ve got a fantastic lunch option for the next few days. Serve it warm or cold, and it goes perfectly with a fresh salad or even some fruit for a quick and easy meal. This is another recipe that uses ready made pastry because the goal here is to keep things uncomplicated! So there you have it—my go-to quick and versatile weeknight dinners to help make your evenings a little less hectic. While a couple of these might take a bit more effort, the best part is that they’re versatile enough to be transformed into different meals throughout the week. Your family will never guess! I hope these ideas take some of the stress out of your dinner planning and make those bumpy weeknights a bit smoother! Have a wonderful day!

easy meals to make for others

Easy Meals to Make For Others

Hi everyone! It’s time to link up with Adrienne, Dara, Jen, Joanne and Sarah for the June edition of ‘Share Our Lives’. Today we are sharing some easy meals to make for others. I love food — talking about food, dreaming about food and of course, eating all the food! So sharing some easy meal ideas we can whip up for me I mean others, is going to be fun and helpful. I’ve made a list of meals I love to make for friends and family. But they’re not just for gatherings. Many of these dishes are perfect to take to someone who is feeling under the weather, celebrating a new addition to the family or is going through a rough patch and could use a little pick me up. After all, food isn’t just about fueling our bodies; it’s about nourishing the soul too! Easy Meals to Make For Others Meals For a Crowd Our family gets together for what we affectionately call ‘Cousin Connect’ dinner on the first Saturday of every month. We take turns hosting, and the host is responsible for preparing the mains. So, when it’s my turn, I go for dishes that are firstly, very easy to make, can be made ahead of time, hearty and satisfying as well as crowd-pleasing! With 13 of us in total, we sure know how to eat like a crowd! For starters, one of my go-to dishes is lasagna. Yum, you can’t go wrong with a big tray of lasagna—layers of lasagna noodles and a rich tomato-based sauce, creamy ricotta, and lots of melty, cheesy goodness! It’s such a timeless classic and best of all, you can make it ahead of time. I also love that I can customise it. Lasagna doesn’t always have to be made with beef! You can make it with chicken or turkey mince or make a vegetarian version loaded with lots of roasted vegetables. Another easy meal I like to make for our family get-togethers is a big bowl of pasta. Fall-apart roasted pork leg is a meal that goes a long way. You can enjoy it with a variety of sides, such as roasted vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, or rice. And if you happen to have leftovers, you can use the tender pork to fill bread rolls and top them with tangy coleslaw. It’s a great versatile meal to make for others! Mediterranean chicken is also a big winner and incredibly easy to make. Greek-style chicken, featuring chicken thigh cutlets marinated in Greek yogurt, garlic, oregano, lemon, and salt and pepper. So good! For sides, a big colourful healthy salad is always a hit with everyone! A few of my crowd-pleasing meals seem to be either Italian or Greek-inspired! Maybe because these cultures are champions at hosting big fun family gatherings. Sweets Brownies are always popular and a perfect addition to any list of easy meals to make for others. They are rich, fudgy and chocolatey and in my opinion, they are so much more delicious than chocolate cake! Brownies are a great dessert option or you can make a batch to give as a gift. I use this packet mix and jazz up the brownies by adding extra chocolate chips or walnuts for extra crunch. Peanut Butter M&M cookies are perfect for sharing over a cup of coffee or tea with a friend. Italian trifles are also great for any occasion and make a tempting dessert to take to a dinner party, potluck, or any gathering. Hearty Meals Hearty meals such as beef stew, chicken casseroles, stroganoff, butter chicken, and chilli con carne are not only easy to make and delicious but also perfect for sharing. They reheat well, making them convenient for anyone who could use a helping hand. Plus, they’re so tasty, that they’re bound to brighten up anyone’s day! Soup Chicken soup for the sick, pumpkin soup for the soul and minestrone for the hungry! Fun Meals Whenever I think of a fun Friday night meal, I immediately think – pizza! I love using pita bread because it’s a delicious and easy base for everyone’s favourite toppings. Burgers are also fun as well as filling! The Big Breakfast Weekends are perfect for big family breakfasts. I don’t eat breakfast during the working week because I’m never hungry before 10 am. After 10, I want to eat everything! So, some weekends, I’ll make a big breakfast for the family that includes scrambled eggs, bacon, chipolatas, tomato, mushrooms, and hash browns. Pancakes with maple syrup are also a favourite! My crunchy granola is a big hit with my family and makes a great food gift. You can put it in a nice jar and add a ribbon for a fun, thoughtful touch! These are some meals that I love to make for others and, of course, enjoy myself! I hope you found this roundup of easy meals to make for others helpful. Happy cooking, and even happier eating!

It has a sweet and savoury flavour with the added crunchy element from the macadamias. Irresistible! Lime and Macadamia Glazed Ham is so incredibly simple to make and you only need a few ingredients. Well, this recipe is certainly full of flavour without any overwhelmingly complicated ingredients or steps. I’m sure you will love it! comfort food

Comfort Food Delights To Warm Your Soul

Hey, there everyone it’s great to be back for the November edition of “Not Just A Mom”. Hosted by Adrienne, Dara, Jen, Joanne, Lauren and Sarah. Today, we’re diving right into one of my all-time favourite subjects: FOOD! Not just any food, no sir, today it’s all about cozy and nostalgic comfort food! It’s the best kind, isn’t it? Comfort Food Why I Love Comfort Food First things first, why do I absolutely adore comfort food so much? Well for me it’s all about the cozy buzz I get when I tuck into a plate of my favourite home-cooked carb-laden deliciousness. Comfort food also evokes nostalgia remembering all the wonderful times in my mum’s kitchen (she was an amazing cook!) or eating at family gatherings. Comfort food is almost like culinary therapy because it can turn a mediocre or bad day into a great one. You don’t need gourmet skills to create amazingly satisfying dishes because comfort food is all about keeping things simple. In a nutshell, comfort food is like eating a plate of happiness. Here Is a List of My Favourite Comfort Food Spaghetti Bolognese This is my favourite food and it’s number one on my list of favourite comfort foods. I love bolognese made from beef mince but lately, I have also been making it with turkey mince and it’s a real winner! Pumpkin Soup With its warm, velvety texture and the rich earthy flavour of pumpkin. A bowl of pumpkin soup topped with a rich dollop of sour cream is simply divine. It’s perfect on a chilly day and it’s the only soup that my family enjoy. They aren’t big soup eaters at all. But there are no complaints when I serve them pumpkin soup, provided of course that there are other courses to follow. Soup is not a satisfying meal for these big guys I live with! Quiche Anything with pastry is considered comfort food in my book! The warm, creamy filling encased in a buttery crust is so satisfying. Quiche is so versatile and you can add various ingredients like vegetables, meat, herbs and of course the star ingredient – cheese! Stews A hearty and simmering pot of stew is a classic example of comfort food. The slow cooking process makes everything taste amazing. There’s nothing better than a pot bubbling away with tender meat, and vegetables, in a rich flavourful broth. Chicken Pie I love chicken and leek pies, chicken and mushroom pies or the divine combination of chicken, leek and mushroom pies! A golden crust filled with delicious thick creamy chicken pie filling is just the best! Lasagna With layers of pasta, rich meat sauce and gooey melted cheese. Lasagna is a total comfort food! Fluffy Mashed Potatoes My family are huge rice eaters but I prefer creamy, buttery clouds of mashed potato. Lamb Shanks In Red Wine Sauce I think that there is nothing better than lamb shanks in red wine sauce on a cold night. The slow-cooked lamb becomes super tender, soaking up all the goodness from the rich red wine sauce. It’s delicious, hearty and makes you feel all good inside. Serve it with creamy mashed potatoes and you will be in comfort heaven! Risotto Risotto with its rich, creamy texture is a soothing and satisfying and filling dish. The best part? You can make it in so many tasty ways! If you’re into veggies, try mushroom or pumpkin risotto. If you fancy seafood or chicken, these are delicious options too! Italian Meatballs Meatballs are total comfort food when made in a rich tomato-based sauce. They are savoury and hearty and you can enjoy them with spaghetti, mashed potato or rice. Meatballs in a bread roll with a good sprinkle of cheese is just perfection! Pancakes Warm fluffy pancakes are a classic and comforting breakfast or brunch option. Serve them with syrup, fruit, ice cream or whipped cream and you have nostalgia on a plate. Pancakes are simple to make and they have that special homey appeal. I can’t help feeling like a kid when I have a stack of pancakes in front of me! Please pass the maple syrup!! Cookies Whether it’s chocolate chip, peanut butter and M&M cookies, jam drops or buttery shortbread. Cookies are the classic treat that makes you feel good. Biting into a warm fresh out-of-the-oven cookie with a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate is the ultimate comfort. Cottage Pie Cottage pie is made with mince and vegetables all tucked under a layer of fluffy creamy mashed potato with cheese sprinkled over the top. When I put it in the oven to bake my whole kitchen fills with an irresistable aroma promising a hearty and satisfying meal. Pasta With Butter And Parmesan Cheese Sometimes I crave this very simple dish of pasta, butter and parmesan cheese because it’s so easy to make and very satisfying. It reminds me of when I was a kid because my mum would make it for me. No wonder I love it so much! I know that comfort food is associated with cold weather but I can’t resist it all year round! If you ever feel guilty about tucking into comfort food during the summertime. Then do what I do, throw in a side salad and you’ll have guilt-free comfort!!

Turkey Bolognese Recipe

Ever since we discovered turkey bolognese my family have finally enjoyed eating bolognese! They have never been big fans of the traditional spaghetti bolognese made with beef mince. I have never understood why because this is actually my favourite dish. And I am not exaggerating when I say that I could eat it almost every day! I feel good about making it often and I finally get to satisfy my love for bolognese regularly. It’s a win-win!! Cook until the vegetables are soft. Add the turkey mince and cook until brown. Add the passata, crushed tomatoes and stock. Add oregano, thyme, cumin and parsley. Bring to a boil, stir then lower the heat to the lowest setting and simmer for 25 minutes. Cook The Pasta While the sauce is simmering. Cook approximately 400 grams of your choice of pasta until al dente combine the sauce and pasta together in a big serving bowl. Serve with parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves to garnish. Notes Don’t worry if it looks like there is a lot of sauce because the pasta will soak it all up and the delicious flavours will infuse into the pasta. Taste as you cook and add seasonings and herbs according to your liking. If you think the sauce is a little on the dry side then add more chicken stock. You could make turkey bolognese with turkey breast mince but I find that it’s drier than regular turkey mince. You’ve probably heard that cooking with children has so many learning benefits. From basic maths skills to literacy and fine motor skills. Cooking is a perfect way to teach children these concepts in a fun and hands-on way. Not to mention the big boost of confidence your kids will get from spending time in the kitchen with you! Peanut Butter M&M Cookies Ingredients 2 cups plain flour 2 teaspoons of baking powder 2 teaspoons of cornflour 1/2 cup of butter 3/4 cup of brown sugar 1/4 cup of granulated sugar 1 egg 2 tablespoons of milk 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Either smooth or crunchy 1 cup of chocolate M&M’s. You can use mini M&M’s or normal-size ones. Instructions Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F. Line a baking tray with baking paper and set aside. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl (flour, baking powder, cornflour) then set aside. Using another bowl beat the melted butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until combined. Add the egg vanilla, peanut butter and milk and mix until well combined. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and fold the ingredients together gently until combined. Carefully fold the M&M’s into the cookie dough. Using your hands roll even balls of cookie dough and place them on the prepared baking tray. Flatten the cookies out to desired thickness. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Once cookies have cooled for approximately 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling completely. Notes Cooking time will vary slightly depending on the thickness of the cookie dough. If you prefer a thick cookie then the cooking time will be 12 minutes. If you flatten your cookies out then you will need approximately 10 minutes of cooking time. You can use either smooth peanut butter or crunchy peanut butter for this recipe. I prefer crunchy peanut butter for added texture and crunch. For this recipe, I used mini M&M’s but I think regular-sized ones would be ok too. Make sure to fold the M&M’s in very gently as the colour of the M&M’s tends to run very quickly. Cookies will stay fresh in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature. Make peanut butter M&M cookies for your family or give them to your co-workers and they will love you forever. They also make lovely gifts to give to your friends during the festive season. Just wrap them up in cellophane bags and decorate them with a pretty ribbon. Peanut butter M&M cookies are so crunchy and colourful that they are sure to spread happiness and joy with every bite!
