what's in my pantry

What’s In My Pantry

When we revamped our kitchen and added a pantry, it was like a dream come true. I’d never had a dedicated pantry before, so the idea of having all our pantry essentials in one spot—rather than crammed into different cupboards—was super exciting. Fast forward three years, and we haven’t done too bad at keeping it tidy. Go us! Most of our essentials manage to stay in their place. It’s amazing how much easier meal prep is when you can actually find what you need without digging through a mess of jars and cans. Believe me, we did plenty of digging around looking for stuff before we got our new kitchen! Our Pantry Essentials Our pantry is tall—our whole galley-style kitchen is pretty compact! Getting a photo that shows just how tall the pantry is was a bit tricky, so I snapped it from an angle to give you a better view. The pantry has some pretty great storage options, like drawers, shelves, and pull-out baskets. Our entire kitchen is from Ikea, and they really know how to make the most of every bit of space. The pantry might be on the smaller side, but it’s packed with all the essentials we need. Here’s a peek at what’s inside: Staples At the very top of the pantry, I keep passata, long-life milk, Krummies, coconut water, and a few other things I don’t need to reach for very often. It’s the perfect spot for those items I use less frequently, so they’re out of the way but still easy to access when I need them. We’ve got a stash of pasta, rice, and grains. Because these are pantry essentials we need for everyday meals. I also keep my Massel stock cubes in there because I use them all the time, they give meals an excellent flavour boost. Canned Goods We also usually have canned tomatoes, beans, and tuna. The cupboard’s a bit bare at the moment since my shopping order is coming tomorrow—canned Mutti tomatoes are definitely on the list. The pull-out baskets need some attention and I’m thinking I will buy some clear containers so that the random bits and pieces look more organised. I always keep a carton of long-life cream in the pantry. Cream is one of those ingredients that’s great to have “just in case.” Since we don’t use it very often, the fresh version tends to go off quickly. And I always feel bad wasting food. But when you need cream, you really need it! Long-life cream is the perfect solution for those times. Jars The first pull-out drawer is full of jars containing nuts, almond flour, seeds, coconut and other dry goods. Condiments and Other Bits In the next pull-out drawer, we have olive oil, vegetable oil, and a variety of vinegar. Sam also keeps his all-important protein powder in there. The lonely jar of peanut butter is there because…. I have no clue why but that’s where it lives. And the tall spaghetti jar doesn’t fit anywhere else. I spy a treat jar! My cousin made each of us a treat jar for Christmas one year. Mine’s usually filled with snakes, while Steve’s has licorice (bleh). But I think right now his jar has some Japanese snacks that Sam brought back from his trip. The last pull-out drawer is where we keep more containers of dry goods such as brown sugar, caster sugar and corn flour. There are also wooden boxes with onions, potatoes and fruit that needs to ripen. Once the fruit is ripe enough but not over ripe I transfer it to the fridge. Avocadoes are usually the trickiest and I check them regularly. One minute they are as hard as my head and then the next they’re ready to eat all at once! What I Love About Our Pantry I just love that we have a pantry after so many years without one! The solid pull-out drawers are wonderful because you can clearly see what’s inside right to the back. I love that I can fit almost all of my pantry essentials in one place. The tall shelves are perfect for storing those items I use less frequently. I get a kick out of seeing all the jars lined up neatly and clearly labelled. What I Don’t Love About Our Pantry I’m not sure how I feel about the pull-out baskets. Things tend to slide through the gaps, which can be a bit frustrating. On the flip side, if we had solid pull-out drawers, I wouldn’t be able to see what’s in them when they’re pulled out as I’m not tall enough. At least with the baskets, I can pull them out and see from underneath. But after writing this post and taking photos, I can see an obvious solution—get some clear containers ASAP, Ruth! The two top shelves are very deep, and sometimes things get pushed to the back. I need to remember to check what I have back there in the beyond before buying things unnecessarily. I’m 162 cm tall and can’t reach the two top shelves without my trusty $4.00 step stool from Kmart. It folds, so I can easily store it in a small gap beside the fridge—it’s the best! These are minor inconveniences, and I almost feel like I’m hurting my pantry’s feelings by criticising it in any way. Overall, I think it’s just totally amazing! Thanks so much for stopping by for this month’s edition of Let’s Look. I’m excited to take a peek at what everyone else has inside their pantries! Have a great day! Closet Cleanout Tips – How To Keep Your Closet Tidy

Hey, friends! Welcome to the first edition of the ‘Let’s Look’ series for 2024, hosted by Erika and Shay. Today we are diving into the world of closets and looking at how we keep them clean and tidy. I’ll be sharing five closet cleanout tips that I find incredibly useful – let’s get started! This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you purchase through these links at no additional cost to you. Thank you for your support! Five Closet Cleanout Tips We are in the middle of the summer school holiday break and I am enjoying every single minute of freedom from my usual work routine. Apart from having an amazing time doing relaxing things like binge-watching TV shows, shopping, eating out and catching up with friends and family. I also have a mental list of a few things that I want to do around the house before I go back to work. Of course, at the top of my list was a closet cleanout, and I managed to tackle this task just the other day. To begin, I started by… SORTING MY WARDROBE The first thing I do when I start my big closet cleanout is to sort my clothes. As I separate them into piles, I take a little time to think about each piece as I sort. This helps me to maintain a useful wardrobe that suits my lifestyle and tastes. I choose what I really like and I let go of what I don’t need anymore. This way I make sure that my closet is made up of pieces that I enjoy wearing and work for me every day. I create three distinct piles to help me with the whole decision-making process: KEEP: These are the items that I absolutely love and wear on repeat. No doubt about it! UNSURE: The clothes that go into this pile are the ones that make me go “Hmmm, I’m not quite sure.” It’s usually a piece of clothing that I haven’t worn in ages. Or something that I don’t feel one hundred per cent attached to. DONATE: The clothes that go into this pile are the ones that I know for sure that I want to say goodbye to and they are still in good enough condition to donate, pass on to family or even sell. After sorting into ‘Keep’, ‘Unsure’, and ‘Donate’, I focus on the unsure items and then if I don’t see myself wearing any of those items any time soon I pass them on to the donate pile. SEASONAL CLOSET REFRESH Giving my closet a seasonal refresh is a practical move. Whenever the weather starts to shift, I take a good look at my clothes and I separate the ones that are suitable for the current weather. Then I set aside the items for another season. But I don’t rush because, in the past, I have made the mistake of doing a complete seasonal wardrobe change. Only to then have to fish out clothes from storage because the weather hadn’t made a full commitment to the change of season. So annoying! Now I make sure that I keep a few transitional pieces where I can easily find them. I have found a few great options that help me optimise the space that I have in my closet. Vacuum-sealed storage bags are amazing for reducing the space the clothes take up, especially those warm but bulky jumpers. I also use the high shelving above my closet rods to store the clothes that I won’t need for the time being. In addition, I store my coats in garment bags and keep them in a closet in my office/garage. You need to get creative when you don’t have a ton of space! I know that you can use under-bed storage containers and these are a great option. But I don’t as I prefer not to keep anything under my bed (except dust hehe). ONE-IN-ONE OUT RULE I try super hard to stick to the one-in-one-out rule. This means that every time I add a new piece to my wardrobe then I need to say goodbye to an existing item. This principle is always in the back of my mind whenever I try something on at the shops. It really helps me to keep a balanced, clutter-free collection. This matches my love for keeping my closet neat with a minimalist touch! KEEP IT NEAT DAILY I try to make sure to keep my closet tidy every day and that way I don’t have to tackle a big closet cleanout very often. I have developed a habit that 15-year-old me would find astonishing. My closets were anything but tidy back during my teenage years! Now I fold my clothes and keep things in their designated spots. This simple habit prevents a big overwhelming mess and it just makes life a whole lot easier in the long run. To keep everything tidy I also use black velvet hangers and these are wonderful because they prevent my clothes from sliding off and ending up on my closet floor. In addition, they are also great for maintaining the shape of my clothes and they don’t leave those dents on the shoulders of my tops the way the wire hangers do. I also use the hangers with clips specifically for skirts and pants, these keep them secured in place and (almost) wrinkle-free. ARRANGE CLOTHES BY COLOUR AND TYPE I have found a practical way to keep my closet tidy and it makes choosing an outfit easy. I organise my clothes by both colour and type. It’s a simple method that begins with grouping similar such as jeans, skirts and shorts etc. Then within each of these groups, I take it a step further and organise them by colour. This way things look visually pleasing and it also serves a very important sanity-saving purpose. When I’m in a hurry or trying to piece an outfit together. I

What’s Inside My Handbag

Hi there friends! Welcome to the August edition of ‘Not Just A Mom’ hosted by Adrienne, Dara, Joanne, Lauren and Sarah. The topic for this month is What’s Inside My Handbag. If I had written this post many years ago the title would have been What’s Not Inside My Handbag, You see, back then my handbag could have easily doubled as Mary Poppins magical carpet bag! I was always prepared for any emergency and my bag was full of items for just-in-case. On top of that, my kids used to love collecting things when we were out and about. So I would always have things like dead flowers, rocks, sticks and leaves laying at the bottom of my handbag. Yep, those were the days! But now my kids are all grown up and my handbag has gone through a huge transformation – from a bottomless pit of kids’ supplies and junk. To a minimal crossbody bag that holds only the essentials. So gone are the days of lugging around a tote that could fit a small child. Now all I carry is a small crossbody bag that not only helps me stay organised but is also perfect for my daily walks to and from work. No more annoying shoulder strain and no more looking like I’m packed to go on a two-week trip! My Everyday Cross Body Bag Let me introduce you to my everyday leather crossbody bag. I bought this cute bag from one of my favourite shops Funkis. A Scandinavian design store in Paddington, Sydney. I deliberately chose a small bag so that I would never be tempted to fill it with things that I didn’t absolutely need. Let’s Take A Peek At What’s Inside My Handbag Wallet   The most important item is my wallet and I have a small one that fits neatly inside my bag. I love that it has a zipper that goes all the way around and keeps everything secure. It also has different sections for bills coins and a few cards. It’s a great design that helps me stay organised and makes things easier. Phone Again I stuck to the theme of keeping things small and compact. So when I updated my phone back in 2020 I went for the iPhone SE. Keys I have two keys on my key holder, my car key and my house key. The great thing about this larger key holder is that its easy to grab without rummaging through my things. Small key holders somehow like to sink to the bottom of even the smallest bags, making them harder to find quickly. Lipstick I keep my favourite shade of lipstick nestled in my bag. Tissues Sometimes I get allergies and I also have gustatory rhinitis. This is a big name that means my nose runs whenever I eat LOL. If you’re curious to learn about this quirky aspect of my life then you can read this in my post 25 things you don’t know about me. Fold-up Carry Bag It’s so handy to keep a foldable bag that holds so much. It’s perfect for impromptu stops at the grocery shop and a really practical must-have. Pen You never know when you might need one! Small Card Wallet I keep most of my cards on an app on my phone but I still have a few cards that I keep in this cute card wallet. Hand Sanitiser   I can’t keep hand sanitiser inside my small handbag because it won’t fit. Instead I have this cute case that holds a small bottle of sanitiser and clips to any bag-its a perfect solution ! And that sums up what’s inside my bag. I absolutely love my crossbody bag-it’s my trusted companion in helping me to keep things simple. Thanks so much for joining me today and taking a peek into my bag. vacation

Vacation, Trips and Adventures!

Hi there everyone it’s time for the June edition of Monthly Musings. So today I am joining Holly and Patty to talk about Vacations, Trips and Adventures. This is a fun topic and although it’s been a long time since I have been on a proper long vacation. I still have so many memories from past vacations. And after writing this post, I find that I am getting really excited about the possibility of future travel. Vacation, Trips and Adventures FAVOURITE VACATION DESTINATIONS I would have to say that my favourite travel destination is Los Angeles. I’m a big chicken when it comes to flying. So I have decided that if I have to risk my life. Then the only places I want to risk my life for are Disneyland and Universal Studios. Another favourite vacation destination is Hawaii. The weather is beautiful and everyone is so friendly and unrushed. I have been lucky enough to visit L. A and Hawaii a few times but not for many years. Who knows maybe I will make my way there again in the next couple of years. I love these travel destinations so much that I refuse to give in to my fear of flying! BEST PACKING TIPS I love packing cubes as they keep everything so neat and organised in your suitcase. But my best packing tip would be to roll your clothes before placing them in the packing cubes. Rolling your clothes saves space and also minimises wrinkles. The rolled garments fit neatly inside the packing cubes and you can easily locate your items without messing up the rest of your packing. I also have a whole bunch of travel tips that you might like to check out here. ROAD TRIPS OR FLY I guess road trips, although it means I will always have one foot ready on my invisible brake. FAVOURITE VACATION MEMORY AS A CHILD Hands down it would have to be the time when my family stayed in a caravan park with my childhood friends and their families. We went to a place called Budgewoi and spent about a week there. To this day we still talk about it because we had so much fun! We swam all day until we were ravenous and then we would go back to the caravan where our mums would be waiting for us with food. There was also some kind of electronic gaming machine in the only shop on the caravan site. My friends and I took turns getting our names up on the top score screen. Although they did have a hard time beating me. Hehe, I’m not sporty at all but give me a joystick and I’m a champ. Such fantastic memories and the best part is that I still keep in contact with my lovely friends. OCEAN, LAKE OR MOUNTAIN I think that I like all of these choices and I don’t have a preference. CAMPOUT OR INDOOR GRILL Campout for sure! FAVOURITE SUMMER COCKTAIL OR MOCKTAIL Probably a Margarita or Piña Colada but give me any fruity Summer cocktail and I’m as happy as can be. MOST AMAZING TRAVEL UPGRADE STORY When I was 14 I went with my mum to visit family who lived on Long Island in New York. When we boarded the plane in Sydney we discovered that our seats were in first class and my mum and I were very confused. We thought they must have made a mistake for sure! The flight attendant assured us that they were our assigned seats. So we sat down fully expecting to be thrown out of there haha! But we weren’t, instead, it was a long luxurious flight where we got to pick our meals from a menu, we had real cutlery and we kept getting offered anything and everything. It was the best!! Here I am with my cousin and her kids in New York! ICE CREAM OR POPSICLE Both as long as there is some strawberry flavour! DO YOU CAMP I don’t camp now but we did when I was a kid. My uncle had all the necessary camping equipment along with a massive army-style tent. My whole family would go to a place called Bundeena and stay during the Easter break and also in Summer. We would all sleep in this one big tent and my aunt would tell us the best ghost stories at night. They left me scared to death and unable to sleep. They’re the best kind, aren’t they?   Even though the thought of flying or enduring long car rides sends shivers down my spine. I have decided to conquer my travel fears because I don’t want to miss out on fabulous vacation opportunities and unforgettable memories. So despite my travel quirks, I am excited about researching for our next adventure. And although our big vacation is still a long while away, it’s going to be epic!

Then try this simple cleaning hack. First, remove the oven racks and soak them in hot soapy water. Then mix bicarb and water to make a paste and spread it over the inside of your oven. Let it sit for a few hours or better still leave it overnight. Then simply wipe it away with a damp cloth. Finally, spray vinegar on the inside of the oven. Wipe it down again to get rid of any remaining residue. CLEAN YOUR SHOWERHEAD WITH VINEGAR Have you noticed that over time mineral deposits can build up on your showerhead? This build-up can be really annoying because it causes the water to spray in all sorts of weird directions. A simple way to clean it is to fill a plastic bag with vinegar. Then tie the bag securely around the showerhead. You just need to make sure that the head is fully immersed in the vinegar. Then leave it for a few hours and run the shower to rinse off the vinegar. Your showerhead will be free of mineral deposits and good to go for a whole lot more refreshing showers. USE A DRYER SHEET TO CLEAN BASEBOARDS (SKIRTING BOARDS) Skirting boards can be big dust collectors and difficult to clean. One simple cleaning hack is to use a dryer sheet to wipe them down. The sheet will pick up the dust and an added bonus is it will leave behind a nice fresh fragrance. USE A TOOTHBRUSH TO CLEAN SMALL SPACES Don’t throw away your old toothbrushes. Instead, give them a good wash and keep them for cleaning small spaces like the grout between the tiles, or the corners of the windows. If you also use a cleaning solution like vinegar or bicarb then this will help to loosen the dirt. USE A LEMON TO CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE We all know that microwaves can become dirty really fast. Get rid of the splatters and food smells with a lemon. Simply cut a lemon in half and place it in a bowl of water. Then microwave the bowl for about 3-5 minutes. Let it sit inside the microwave so that the steam does all the work of loosening any grime and dirt. Finally, use a cloth to wipe down the inside of the microwave. And the result will be a clean, shiny and fresh-smelling microwave. USE A LINT ROLLER TO CLEAN LAMPSHADES Lampshades are one of those things that can be awkward to clean. But with a lint roller, you can quickly and easily remove any dirt and dust. Simply roll the lint roller over the lampshade and it will pick up any debris. USE A VINEGAR SOLUTION TO CLEAN YOUR DISHWASHER Dishwashers can get really dirty and smelly over time. To clean your dishwasher, mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Then spray the inside of the dishwasher, making sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and then wipe it down with a damp cloth. If you use chemicals then you run the risk of damaging or scratching your screen. USE VINEGAR TO CLEAN YOUR KETTLE The inside of kettles can go brown and unsightly after a while. But with vinegar, you can get your kettle looking like new in no time. All you have to do is fill the kettle with equal parts vinegar and water. Leave it overnight and in the morning rinse the kettle several times to remove any vinegar. USE A TOOTHBRUSH TO CLEAN YOUR KEYBOARD Have you ever looked at your keyboard and then been horrified by all the crumbs, dust and debris? Just use a toothbrush dipped in rubbing alcohol. Gently scrub but always make sure that your keyboard is unplugged first. For a more thorough clean, you can also use compressed air to really blow away any remaining dust. You can buy compressed air at many office supply stores, electronic stores or hardware stores. USE BICARB (BAKING SODA) AND VINEGAR TO CLEAN DRAINS Ugh, clogged drains can just about ruin your day! But there’s a simple solution to this problem. Simply pour a cup of bicarb down the drain followed by a cup of vinegar. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes then flush it down wth boiling water. This can help clean any debris and leave your drains smelling fresh. Laundry Stain Removal Hacks You Need To Know

Today we are going to look at some super effective laundry stain removal hacks that will make your life easier. One of the most frustrating parts of doing laundry is dealing with stubborn stains that won’t come off. Whether it’s grass stains on your child’s pants, coffee stains on your favourite shirt or a greasy stain on your t-shirt compliments of a juicy burger. It can be a real challenge to get rid of them. But fear not! There are plenty of effective laundry stain-removal hacks that can help you tackle even the toughest stains. So let’s jump right in and look at some great tips for dealing with nasty laundry stains. Laundry Stain Removal Hacks Act Fast The first and most important laundry stain removal hack is to act fast. Because the longer you wait, the harder it will be to remove the stain. So make sure that you treat it as soon as notice it. Don’t Rub The Stain It’s so tempting to rub the stain vigorously with a cloth or sponge when you are in a panic and trying desperately to stop your clothes from being permanently ruined. In fact, rubbing can cause the stain to spread and embed deeper into the fibers, making it difficult to remove. Instead of rubbing, gently blot the stain with a clean cloth before you treat it with the appropriate stain remover. Check The Care Label Before you do anything, always make sure to read the tiny writing on the care label of the garment. The last thing that you want to do is damage the fabric by using the wrong cleaning method. Identify The Stain Remember that different types of stains require different treatments. So before you try and remove the stain always make sure that you know what kind of stain you are dealing with. And that way you will use the appropriate treatment. For example, a grease stain will require a different treatment than a red wine stain. Use The Correct Detergent You need to make sure that you use the correct detergent. Because it will make a big difference when it comes to how successful you are in removing that annoying stain. So look for a detergent that is made especially for your type of stain and fabric. Use Hot Water Hot water can be helpful in removing some stains. The reason for this is that hot water can help break down and remove certain stains. Again, make sure to identify the stain and check the care label to make sure that hot water won’t ruin the fabric. Use Vinegar Vinegar is an amazing all-purpose natural cleaner. And it can also be very effective when it comes to stain removal. Mix equal parts vinegar and water then apply to the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing. Use Baking Soda Baking soda is also another natural cleaner that can help to remove stains. All you need to do is mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a little water to make a paste. Then apply it to the stain and let sit for a few minutes before washing. Use Lemon Juice Did you know that lemon juice is a type of natural bleach? It can be very effective for removing stains if you apply a little to the stain and then wash as usual after a few minutes. Use Dish Soap Dish soap is amazing when it comes to removing grease and oil stains. Just apply a little bit of dish soap to the stain and leave it on for a few minutes before washing as you normally would. Use Salt Salt is fantastic for removing red wine stains. Pour a good amount onto the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before washing. Use Soda Water Soda water is good for removing coffee and tea stains. Pour some soda water onto the stain and leave it on for a short while before washing as usual. Use Cornflour Corn flour can be used to remove grease and oil stains. Sprinkle some onto the stain and after a short while brush the cornflour off and wash as you normally would. Use Rubbing Alcohol Rubbing alcohol is perfect for removing ink stains. Just apply some onto the stain before washing as usual. Soak Stained Clothes For stubborn stains try soaking your garment in water and laundry detergent before washing. Use A Brush Some tough stains need to brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. This can loosen the stain and make it much easier to remove in the wash. Don’t Dry Clothes Until The Stain Is Gone If you can still see the stain even after you have washed your garment. Then make sure not to let it dry because this will make it so much harder to remove the stain. The last thing you want is for the stain to set. Here Is A List Of Possible Stains And Laundry Stain Removal Solutions Coffee/tea stains: First soak the stained area in cold water and then blot with a solution of white vinegar and water. Rinse with cold water. Grass Stains: Make a paste with baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply the paste to the stain and let sit for approximately 15 minutes. Then scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush before washing as usual. Wine Stains: Blot up any excess wine with a clean cloth. Then cover the stain with enough salt to absorb the liquid. Rinse with cold water and apply a solution of equal parts vinegar and water. Lastly, rinse with cold water again. Oil Stains: Apply a small amount of dish soap to the stained area and let sit for at least 10 minutes then rinse with hot water and wash as usual. Blood Stains: Soak the stained area in cold water. Then apply dish soap, let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse with cold water. Grease Stains: Apply a solution of white vinegar and baking soda then

What’s Inside My Medicine Cabinet

Hi everyone I can hardly believe that it’s already the February edition of ‘Let’s Look’. Today I’m linking up with Shay from ‘Mix and Match Mama’ and Erika from ‘ A Little Bit Of Everything’. And we are going to chat about ‘What’s In Our Medicine Cabinet”. I like joining in and looking at these topics because they are a great way to exchange ideas and grab some tips. And the nosey part of me also likes to peek inside people’s cabinets too. Hehe! What’s Inside My Medicine Cabinet So welcome to my medicine cabinet the home of my happy and healthy essentials. From first aid must-haves to self-care staples. This medicine cabinet holds all the tools that I need to keep me feeling my best. A First Aid Box I like to keep all my first aid essentials in a box that I picked up from Ikea. I love this big box which is part of a set that has containers of different sizes. They are fantastic for keeping my bits and pieces neatly stored inside my cabinets. Inside this box, I keep my first aid things like band-aids and antiseptic for cuts and scrapes. As well as bandages, splinter cream, burn-aid (which is absolutely amazing for small burns. It stops the stinging in a flash) and an asthma puffer. I don’t have asthma but after I get a cold and cough. I find that my airway is very sensitive so the puffer helps with that. Pain relievers I have some Paracetamol and Ibuprofen in the medicine cabinet. When headaches strike I try and deal with them first of all by drinking water (sometimes I’m not great at remembering until I have a headache). But then of course, if that doesn’t work then I reach for the paracetamol. And the ibuprofen is mainly for my husband who gets knee pain from being on his feet for so many hours at work. Allergy relief My allergies are nowhere near as bad as they used to be. But sometimes they flare up and my nose is so annoyingly itchy that I want to scratch it off. So I like to keep some antihistamines to help during the allergy season. You can see by the way I’ve ripped open the box that my nose must have been making me crazy. I couldn’t wait to get into the antihistamine to make it stop! Skincare I keep some essential skincare products in my medicine cabinet. Like sunscreen, moisturiser and night cream. As well as some face masks to pamper my skin and give it the nourishment it needs. Visine Eye Drops My eyes go bright red almost every time I wash my hair. It doesn’t matter what brand of shampoo I use whether it’s organic, salon or supermarket shampoo. For some reason, any shampoo irritates my eyes and makes me look like I have been crying. So after I wash my hair I squirt some Visine eye drops in my eyes and then I’m all good to go. Thermometer I make sure to keep a thermometer in the medicine cabinet for easy access. It sure came in handy when we had covid! Electrolyte Solution For Dehydration We had the worst bout of gastro late last year. So I had to order some Hydrolyte ice blocks online to help us all get through it. None of us could even leave the house to go and buy it at the chemist. We don’t often get gastro but now we are prepared. Cotton Buds And Cotton Balls There’s also a small stash of cotton buds and cotton balls stored away in the Ikea containers that I mentioned earlier. RAT Tests I keep a couple of boxes of rapid antigen tests. But we got given so many from Sam’s school and my preschool that we also have a few boxes stored under the main bathroom sink. Aeroguard The mozzies are just relentless, especially in this humid weather. So roll-on Aeroguard insect repellent is an absolute must in the medicine cabinet! And that’s about all of the essentials that I keep in my main medicine cabinet. I also have a cupboard under the sink in the ensuite where I keep other things like hair products and make-up etc. Thanks so much for stopping by today and letting me give you a little tour of what’s inside my medicine cabinet. What’s inside yours, I’d really love to know 😊. In case you missed it. Here’s what we looked at in January. Organisation Tips For A Busy Family

Organisation Tips For A Busy Family

Hey everyone! It’s the first ‘Let’s Look’ for 2023 and we are kicking off the series with some organisation tips as the topic for January is scheduling/organising a busy family. I enjoy being part of this link-up with Erika and Shay because it is a great way to share some really useful tips. And it’s also fun to catch a glimpse of how we do everyday life. It’s funny how the seasons of life change. One minute you’re in the thick of it with a million things to try and organise. The next you’re not. At the moment I’m at the stage when life has calmed down in a lot of ways because my kids are all grown up. And I only have one son living at home as my oldest son moved out a few years ago. But I do remember and it certainly doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. When we were so busy trying to squeeze in work, school, sports, homework and everything else in between. Yep, those days were certainly full on, to say the least. And when it was all happening I would feel like “oh my goodness will this never end” and then it does (insert sad face). Anyway here are some of the things that I did to organise my busy family when I was ‘in the trenches’. Some of the things on this list I still need to do because I work full time, my husband works unusual hours and my son has just finished school but will be starting uni soon. So we still have to keep track of what we are all up to as far as chores, appointments and commitments go. Organisation Tips For A Busy Family Write Everything Down It is just so easy to forget things and lose track of what events are coming up. The only way that I could ever remember things was and still is. Is to write everything down! I like to write things in my diary/planner and then back in the day when we had the whole family doing this, that and the other. I would write everyone’s schedule on one big calendar using different coloured pens. And each person in our family had their own colour. I’m a visual person. So writing everything down in different colours just made it a whole lot easier for me to remember who was doing what. Organise Stationery Supplies Stationery just makes me so happy so this was fun to do. I have a shelf in my home office where I keep a whole lot of stationery supplies at hand. There we have all the things that we needed for school such as pens, pencils, spare ink for the printer, highlighters, rulers, erasers, paper, plastic sleeves etc. I could go on and on because even just writing about stationery gives me joyful goosebumps! This shelf was a total lifesaver because it meant that we were never caught out having to run to the shops to grab stationery supplies. Especially things like ink for the printer. We always seemed to run out of ink when a big assignment needed to be printed at 11 pm. Those were the days!! Sam will be starting uni in February so I’m sure that he will be raiding the stationery shelf again soon. Create A Cleaning Routine Finding a routine that suits you will make keeping a clean home so much less stressful. My cleaning routine is different now than it was when my kids were younger. I had much less time when we had so many other commitments like swimming lessons, art classes, hockey, taekwondo, and jiu-jitsu. So I let some things go during the week to save my sanity. Consequently, I spent more time cleaning and doing laundry on the weekends than I do now. It’s just a matter of adjusting and being consistent. Meal Plan Ahem…..confession…..I love to meal plan and I start off strong at the beginning of each school term. But sometimes by the end of the term I slacken off and then I find myself on the struggle bus. But when I do meal plan like a champ then the week is just so much easier! Shopping, sticking to a budget, and of course, knowing what to cook each day is a breeze when I meal plan. Keep A Stash Of Birthday Cards I like to keep a small stash of birthday cards and I will stock up on them if I ever see them discounted. My son and his friends have all recently turned eighteen. So he has been invited to quite a few parties recently. I grabbed a few birthday cards when I saw them on sale at Typo. And they have come in real handy! Have A Place For Everything One of the best organisation tips for a busy family is to keep a place for everything. When school excursion notes would come in I would sign the permission slip straight away, write it on the calendar and then file the note. Because the note always came with instructions for what time to be at school for the bus, uniform or clothing that they had to wear and supplies that they needed for the day. I also have a file for birth certificates, passports, and other important documents. It just makes it so much easier when everything is in one place. Keep Cleaning Supplies In A Caddy As far as organisation tips go this one is great for eliminating unnecessary frustration! Years ago I used to keep some cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink and some in the laundry. I used to frustrate myself by going back and forth gathering my cleaning supplies. Then one day I had a lightbulb moment and I bought myself a cleaning caddy. And now all I do is grab my caddy when I need to clean and everything I need is there in one place.
