After all, who doesn’t want their home’s exterior to be a sight to behold year-round? But before delving into the outdoor oasis, ensure your indoor sanctuary is snug and warm. Check your heating system, insulation, windows, and the like to guarantee a cosy interior retreat as the temperatures drop. Once your indoors are sorted, it’s time to focus on transforming your outdoor space into a haven that’s equally inviting and enchanting. How To Prepare Your Outdoor Living Area For Autumn Essential Furniture Maintenance: Tips for Longevity Elevate your outdoor experience by ensuring your outdoor furniture is as inviting and comfortable as your indoor furnishings. Not only does it provide a cosy retreat for you to unwind in nature’s embrace. It also offers your guests a delightful spot to relax and enjoy your company. While your chairs, tables, hammocks, and other pieces may have served you well through the summer months, it’s time to give them a little extra protection as autumn looms. By providing them with added protection now, you’ll be safeguarding them against the harsh winter elements that lie ahead. Think of it as an investment in longevity, sparing you the hassle and expense of constant replacements. For wooden furniture, a protective varnish will ward off fading and rot, ensuring they maintain their beauty for seasons to come. Similarly, investing in protective covers for metal pieces will help shield them from the elements. Remember, proper cleaning and drying are crucial to prevent mould growth, especially if you plan to store them in your shed or garage later on. Pool Perfection: Essential Maintenance Tips for Autumn With around 1 in 7 Australians having their own backyard oasis, it’s clear why pools are such a hit. But as you prepare your outdoor living space for autumn, it’s time to give your pool some love to keep it in top shape! Start by clearing out any leaves and debris, and keeping filters clean for that crystal-clear water we all love. Don’t forget to test the water chemistry regularly to keep algae at bay and ensure safe swimming. Now’s the time to fix any niggling issues like leaks or cracks before they worsen. Consider a concrete pool resurfacing if needed to restore that fresh look and maintain structural integrity. As the temperature cools, prep your pool for the season ahead. Think about draining water to the right level. Additionally, store equipment, and grab a high-quality pool cover for extra protection against the elements. By diving into these proactive steps now, you’re not just safeguarding your pool. You are also guaranteeing it stays a year-round haven of fun and relaxation. Say goodbye to unexpected headaches and hello to uninterrupted poolside bliss! Embrace the Cosy Charm: Elevate Your Patio with a Fire Pit As the crisp chill of autumn settles in, the allure of outdoor living doesn’t have to fade. Picture this: the cosy warmth of a fire pit casting a soft glow, transforming your patio into a haven of comfort and relaxation on those chilly nights. Not only does a fire pit keep you toasty, but it also adds a touch of charm and sophistication to your outdoor space. It becomes a captivating focal point, drawing friends and family together for evenings filled with laughter and memories. Whether you opt for a grand, permanent fire pit or a portable one that fits your patio size, the options are endless. Consider the fuel source too – will it be the rustic crackle of wood, the convenience of gas, or the simplicity of electricity? With a fire pit, you’re not just adding warmth to your patio – you’re creating an inviting retreat that elevates your outdoor living experience and boosts your home’s appeal. So, why let the cold weather hold you back? Embrace the season and ignite the magic of outdoor living with a stylish fire pit at your side. It’s time to revitalize your outdoor space with these driveway makeover ideas that go beyond the ordinary. 7 Driveway Makeover Ideas 1. Stay Simple With Gravel Switching to a gravel driveway has many benefits. Such driveways are cheap to install and low maintenance. You can also explore all kinds of different styles of gravel to achieve all kinds of effects. On top of basic crushed grey stone, you can explore options like white marble chips, golden beach pebbles, red granite chippings or black basalt gravel. You could even opt for a multicoloured mixture of stones for an explosion of colour.  2. Try Coloured Concrete Concrete driveways are known for being long-lasting and durable. While grey concrete is the standard, many people don’t realise that concrete concrete is an option. Such concrete can be tinted to replicate all kinds of earthy tones from terracotta to slate green. It’s much cheaper than using authentic natural stone and is typically more damage-resistant.  3. Experiment With Block Paving Block paving is still seen as one of the more sophisticated options. Such a driveway is likely to be very durable and could even add value to your home. There are all kinds of block paving patterns that you can experiment with. For more complex patterns, it’s worth hiring a block paving specialist.  4. Light Up Your Driveway Adding some lighting to your driveway could make your home look more attractive at night, while also helping to make parking easier and warding off burglars. You could install recessed lights directly into your driveway or bollard lights. You can even light your driveway up from above with floodlights. 5. Install A Gate A gate could be a fancy feature to add to the front of your driveway that is certain to boost security and boost your home’s value. Gates come in all kinds of styles from traditional iron gates to wooden gates, and can be manually operated or automatic. Take your time to compare different styles to find a gate best suited to your property. Consider the fact that you will likely need planning permission, plus there will need to be suitable clearance space for the gate.  6. Transform It Into A Front Lawn Do you actually need a driveway? While off-road parking can be beneficial to many people, not everyone owns a car or feels the need to park on a driveway. Converting your driveway into a lawn could potentially be a better use of the space. While you can carry out lawn installation yourself, it may be easier to hire a professional when converting a driveway into a lawn. Take your time to look at different types of turf and consider whether you want to add other plants. 7. Add A Carport A carport is a purpose-built canopy that you can park your car underneath. It can provide shade from the sun and shelter from rain and bird poo. Carports can be built in various different styles. They could be a worthy addition if you want to protect your car but don’t have the space for a garage.  Conclusion Ready to make a lasting impression and turn your driveway into a stunning focal point? These driveway makeover ideas offer a spectrum of possibilities, allowing you to inject personality and style into a space often overlooked. From the simplicity of gravel to the sophistication of block paving, each option carries its unique charm. Illuminate your path with strategic lighting or add an extra layer of security with a stylish gate. If off-road parking isn’t a priority, consider transforming your driveway into a lush front lawn or installing a practical carport. The choices are as diverse as your imagination, so go ahead and embark on this exciting journey to redefine your home’s entrance. It’s time to say goodbye to the mundane and welcome a driveway that not only serves its purpose but also makes a statement. How to create a minimalist home

How To Create A Minimalist Home – 8 Tips!

Hi there, it’s time for Wellness Wednesday! I thought we could explore the topic of minimal living and look at how we can create a minimalist home. There is no doubt that life is busy and we’re all feeling it! But what if we could break free from the chaos and create amazing clutter-free homes that reflect simplicity and exude calmness? Let’s discover how paring down possessions and embracing a minimalist approach can boost our wellness and enrich our daily lives. Come along as we take a closer look at what a minimalist home looks like. UNDERSTANDING MINIMALISM Minimalism isn’t just about white walls and empty spaces. It’s a philosophy that encourages intentional living with a strong emphasis on quality over quantity. In a nutshell, minimalism is about simplifying your life by removing excess and focusing on what truly matters. Adopting a minimalist approach helps to create a living space that promotes a sense of calm. Firstly, I have to say that I am not a minimalist. But I do try and be mindful of making impulse purchases that will clutter up my home. I guess you could say that I am on a journey to simplify my world and I aim to live with less. One reason I find minimal living appealing is that clutter and too many things tend to stress me out. Even before minimalism became a buzzword, I was always drawn to the notion that less is more, preferring clear open spaces free from clutter as well as simple decor, and neutral colours. HOW TO CREATE A MINIMALIST HOME DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE To create a minimalist home, the first step is to declutter! Take a deep breath, find some motivation and set aside a dedicated time to go through each room in your home. Ask yourself: Do I love this item? Do I use it regularly? If the answer is no then consider saying goodbye to it. It’s ok to donate, sell or recycle items and possessions that no longer serve a purpose in your life. Give yourself the freedom and permission to let go of things. EMBRACE A ‘LESS IS MORE’ MENTALITY In a minimalist home, each item has a purpose as well as a designated place. So when you are out and about enjoying some shopping remember to be intentional about what you buy and bring into your space. Invest in quality items that will stand the test of time and survive passing trends. Additionally, consider the versatile beauty of multifunctional furniture. A coffee table with hidden storage or a sofa that turns into a bed saves space and fits well with the idea of keeping things simple. CREATE A NEUTRAL PALETTE Choose calm colours for a minimalist look. Whites, greys and earth tones create a calm feel. This doesn’t mean that your home will lack personality and feel sterile. If you incorporate softer colours and natural materials such as wood or stone this will give your space warmth and depth. STREAMLINE YOUR FURNITURE Furniture is crucial for the visual appeal of your home. Therefore if you want to create a minimalist home then a good idea is to choose pieces that are both practical and stylish. Go for clean simple designs as they will make your space look better and feel more open and calm. FOCUS ON MINDFUL DECOR Stick to the motto of less is more when decorating your home. Instead of filling it with countless trinkets, opt for a few meaningful pieces that tell a story or make you happy – simple yet meaningful. DIGITAL DECLUTTERING In today’s digital era, minimalism applies not only to physical belongings but also to our online spaces and digital possessions. So consider taking time to declutter your digital space. Arrange your files, tidy your desktop, and unsubscribe from those spammy emails that you don’t need. A clutter-free online life can really boost your mental well-being. EMBRACE A CAPSULE WARDROBE Simplify your closet with a capsule wardrobe. Choose good quality pieces that effortlessly mix and match for a variety of looks. Additionally, having a curated wardrobe will set your days up for a win by taking the stress out of getting ready in the mornings. KEEP IT SIMPLE WITH REGULAR ROUTINES Minimalism is a way of life and an ongoing effort rather than a one-and-done deal. Therefore it’s a good idea to set up daily or weekly routines to keep your home clutter-free. Regularly go through your things to make sure they still serve a purpose in your life. In other words…declutter, declutter, declutter….often! CONCLUSION – YOUR TRANQUIL HAVEN Embracing simplicity to create a minimalist home goes beyond tidying up – it’s about giving your mind some space to relax and breathe. Create a calm haven that nurtures your well-being and reflects your true priorities. Find your rhythm in the balance of simplicity and style. Let your minimalist home show off the beauty of mindful living. Related Articles Negative Effects Of Clutter

Ikea 2023

Ikea August 2023

Hi friends, today I’m sharing the fun we had last Saturday. My sweet friend and I decided to indulge in a little retail therapy and interior decorating inspo at none other than our local Ikea. We headed over to the ever-convenient Tempe store which just happens to be a breezy ten-minute drive from my place. I love how its close proximity means that I could pop in there any time. Even though I don’t, it’s nice knowing that I could. Living so close to Ikea came in incredibly handy a couple of years back when we renovated our kitchen. There were a few times when I needed to make quick trips to either return or exchange items. Having the store almost just around the corner was a real lifesaver and it’s a convenience I love! What I Love About Ikea Endless Inspiration: When I walk into Ikea it’s like going into a world where every corner oozes creativity and style. The room setups are so beautifully designed and I always get fresh ideas for my own home. Ikea always has endless possibilities and so much decorating inspiration. Affordable Finds: Although I did notice some price increases, you can still find so many stylish and practical gems at Ikea without emptying your wallet. Smart Design Solutions: I’m all about making my space work for me, and Ikea totally gets it. They’ve got loads of clever designs, perfect for small homes like mine. Ikea is my go-to for making my place feel organised and cozy. Cafeteria Delights: The cafeteria is a nice spot to take a break and enjoy a bite of some delicious Swedish fare. My Recent Visit To Ikea What struck me the most about this visit was that there seems to be a shift in design direction. It was like a blast from the past with big bold pops of colour and patterns that transported me back to the groovy vibes of the 70s and the funky freshness of the 80s. Neutrals and greys have now taken a back seat as vibrant hues and daring prints are moving into the limelight. I’m not sure how I feel about this as neutral tones have my heart forever. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see so many colourful decor items, furniture and textiles. Trends usually make a comeback, don’t they? And it seems that we are now heading in a very colourful direction when it comes to home decor. So many colourful textile and bedding choices! Even some of the furniture now comes in bright bold colours. Orange and a soft shade of green seem to be the predominant colours at Ikea in 2023. Colourful Marketplace Finds Moving onto the marketplace where tablecloths, kitchen gadgets and decor items all featured bright colours too. I can’t help but think of the kitchen from ‘The Brady Bunch’ when I see this shade of orange and green combo. There was a very bold 70s vibe in the kitchen section at Ikea! I felt tempted to buy this vegetable spiralizer but I resisted (If only they came in white!). These eco-friendly string bags now come in two different colours to make your shopping experience happy! I spotted some big quirky green cactus-shaped watering cans. Even though I can’t say they would be my preferred choice, I couldn’t help but smile when I saw them because they are so fun and silly! A water container that doubles as a kettlebell. Why not? I guess it’s a good way of staying in shape and hydrated. Ikea thinks of everything! These horses seem to come out yearly featuring on-trend colours. I think last year they were grey and this year they are green of course! The lighting section also offered some fun and colourful strip lights. The Ikea Cafeteria One of my favourite things to do while on a big shopping trip to Ikea is to stop at the cafeteria for a bite to eat. I was on the lookout for the delicious open sandwich but I couldn’t find any. Ikea seems to have really simplified their menu and the fridge section was pretty bare. I really hope they bring back more of the old favourites they offered before covid. My friend and I ordered the delicious and healthy salmon. I know it looks kind of bland but trust me-it tasted awesome! I couldn’t resist a cup of this delicious fizzy pear drink. It was really refreshing and not too sweet at all so I went back for more. Walking around the huge Ikea maze was like a workout and it made me thirsty! So there you have it friends, a little peek into my very colourful Ikea adventure. I absolutely love this place and never get tired of visiting. It’s an amazing world of endless creativity and design magic where I am guaranteed to uncover inspiration, storage solutions and some fantastic affordable finds (as long as I resist the urge to fill up my trolley!)

Happy Home Essentials

Hi and welcome! Today I am sharing with you ten happy home essentials that will turn your living space into a cozy haven of joy and tranquillity. A happy home is not just about its physical structure and layout. It is also a place that nurtures our well-being, provides sanctuary and uplifts our spirits. With these fabulous essentials, you can create a warm environment that is welcoming and provides you and your family with comfort and positivity. Ten Happy Home Essentials Natural Light And Fresh Air One of the best ways to lift your mood and energy levels is to open up those windows, blinds and curtains to let all the glorious natural light and fresh air into your home. You will not only feel instantly happier, but you will also improve how your living space looks. A great way to ensure that your home isn’t in constant darkness is to opt for sheer curtains that still provide privacy but don’t totally block out natural light. Or you could install skylights, but if this is not really an option then try placing mirrors in strategic positions around your home. Mirrors do an amazing job of reflecting sunlight making your home feel light and airy. In addition, remember to ventilate your home (even in winter) to ensure that fresh air circulates getting rid of germs and musty smells. Greenery And Indoor Plants Your home will feel instantly brighter if you add a touch of nature and bring plants into your indoor environment. There are so many amazing benefits to houseplants. They purify your air and also create a sense of balance and serenity. Go for low-maintenance plants such as spider plants, peace lilies, monstera, pothos and succulents. Indoor plants are a wonderful way to elevate the visual appeal of your home and they also have the added benefit of contributing to your wellness. Comfortable And Cozy Spaces If you want a comfortable and relaxing environment that promotes a sense of contentment then make sure to create some cozy nooks and comfortable spaces in your home. Think of adding some soft luxurious cushions and blankets. Invest in furniture designed to support your body and promotes relaxation. In addition, make sure to incorporate a cozy area where you can unwind and recharge after a long day. You deserve it! Organisation And Storage Clutter can cause a real sense of stress and anxiety. So if you want to create a happy and organised home then a good way to go about achieving this is to be very thoughtful when it comes to storage solutions. You can use lovely baskets and boxes to store all of your belongings and keep them both organised and easy to find. Less clutter equals an aesthetically appealing setting and that’s a real winner! Relaxing Scents And Aromatherapy Our moods and emotions are strongly impacted by scents and aromas. Therefore it’s a great idea to fill your home with scents that will make you feel calm and relaxed. Such as lavender, chamomile and bergamot. You can use scented candles, natural room sprays, essential oils and stovetop potpourri to create a calming and soothing ambience. Experiment with different scents that resonate with you and create an atmosphere of calmness and relaxation in your home. Colours And Patterns If you love vibrant colours and bold patterns then incorporating these into your home decor is a sure way to create a living space that reflects life and vitality. Just like aromas and scents impact our mood, so do colours. Cheerful tones such as bright yellows, serene blues or refreshing greens are happy home essentials for lovers of all things bright and sunny! Adding interesting patterns to your rugs, cushions or artwork will also transform your home into a lively and uplifting sanctuary. Personalized Touches Incorporating touches to your home that are meaningful to you will also create a joyful and happy environment. Adding mindful displays such as family photos or souvenirs from fun trips is a fantastic way to inject your own personality into your home decor. You don’t need to clutter all your surfaces with items and memorabilia. However, carefully displaying a few thoughtful and treasured items around your home is a wonderful way to ensure that your home has your own unique touch. Create Social Spaces Arrange your furniture and decor so that it promotes social connection and interaction. We all know that good solid relationships are vital for our well-being so creating spaces in your home that encourage entertaining, family gatherings and get-togethers is so important. Think comfortable seating, dining areas and cozy living rooms. You don’t have to live in a large home to have these designated spaces that will promote fun times full of laughter and lots of lively conversation. Comfortable And Cozy Spaces If you want to make sure that your home feels relaxed. Then consider creating some cozy nooks and comfortable spaces. Be inspired by the Danish concept of Hygge which embraces a warm and comfortable atmosphere to promote a sense of calmness and well-being. Incorporate natural elements such as wood and glass into your home decor as well as soft textures and warm lighting. This will give your living spaces a sense of coziness and contentment and make them a haven where you can relax, unwind and feel safe. Add Some Fun Elements Adding some fun and playful elements to your home will create an enjoyable atmosphere that inspires happiness and entertainment. Find your inner child again and have some board games handy so you can join in some spontaneous family game nights. Hang a swing or hammock in your backyard or balcony and create a playful retreat. If you are creative and enjoy arts and crafts then a dedicated space or area for this is essential.  Adding these fun elements will create a happy and inviting home. As well as neater and organised. If you are looking for some inspiration for decluttering then you might like to check out this post. Add Some Flowers Or Greenery Flowers or some nice indoor plants will add a special finishing touch to your home. Flowers provide a fresh natural element to any space. And if your home is decorated mainly in neutrals then you can display flowers that will add a really nice pop of colour. Buying fresh flowers can be quite expensive, so a few nice indoor plants will also incorporate an elegant natural effect into your home. Just the same as fresh flowers do. Another great tip if you are looking for ways to bring some greenery into your home. Is to simply go outside and cut a few branches from a tree or bush. If you display them in a glass vase they will look very high-end and absolutely gorgeous! Use White Bed Linen and Towels White bedding has a luxurious look just like you would find in a hotel. White towels also have that lovely high-end spa look. The great thing about sticking to white bed linen and towels is that they not only make your home look fresh. They are also quite easy to keep clean. If they start to look a bit grey then you can always just use some bleach to bring back the brightness. Stick To Classic Neutral Colours Neutrals don’t mean boring! Neutral colours are classic, timeless, and elegant. Neutral colour palettes are usually found in designer-styled homes. But if you really love colour then you can always add colour throughout your home in the decor that you choose. If you make a big colour commitment by painting your walls in a particular on-trend colour. Then you run the risk of having a home that will eventually look dated. Remember the peach colour craze from the eighties! Lamps Another great way to make your home look expensive is to update your lamps or lampshades. Your home will look just as beautiful as the homes that you see in magazines and on Pinterest. Hanging your curtains up nice and high will give the illusion of a taller ceiling. High ceilings are a real feature that you will find in expensive homes! Consider Your Entryway Giving your exterior a complete makeover can be very pricey. So a nice and easy way to make your home look more expensive and have curb appeal without spending too much. Is to paint the door an elegant darker shade to make the entryway stand out. Or if painting is not possible then skip the paint and just add some nice tall pot plants. This will also give your entrance a great impact. Change Hardware Changing the nobs and handles on some existing furniture can take them from dull to luxe easily and cheaply. The same applies to the kitchen and bathroom. If you aren’t ready for a big kitchen and bathroom renovation. Then consider changing the handles on the doors and drawers. How To Make Your Home Smell Amazing

I am always looking for ways to make my home smell amazing. I just love coming home after being out or at work, opening the door, and catching a nice welcoming fresh fragrance. Here are a few simple tips that I use often to keep my home smelling great. Open Your Windows The most obvious way to keep your home smelling fresh is to open your windows to circulate some air. This can be a bit tricky during winter but I find that opening windows is the best way to get rid of any musty or cooking smells. Then you can go ahead and scent your home in various ways and you won’t be just masking unpleasant smells. Scented Candles Burning a candle is a quick and easy way I keep my home smelling good. Over the years I have tried a variety of brands and scents. Some have been hits and others have been big misses! So far my favourite candles are soy candles from Ecoya and the fragrance that I like the best is called French Pear. I also like Pecksniffs and Rae Dunn candles. My son bought me a Yankee Candle as a present last year which I really liked. It was called fairy floss and it had a nice sweet yet subtle smell. Use Cleaning Products That Have A Lovely Fragrance I love using cleaning products that leave a lovely fresh smell and I have a real weakness for citrus or any fruity smells. I clean my bathrooms with this Earth Choice Shower cleaner. It is free from nasty chemicals and it leaves my bathrooms smelling divine. The gorgeous subtle orange smell lingers for ages, It’s just the best! I keep this Method multi-purpose cleaner in the kitchen to wipe the countertops. I’ve tried other Method sprays but I love this scent the best, it’s called Wild Rhubarb. Add Essential Oils To Your Vacuum Cleaner Filter Next time you vacuum add a couple of drops of essential oils to your filter or vacuum bag. Then when you run your vacuum cleaner the scent of the essential oil will diffuse around your home as you clean. Stovetop Potpourri Another way to make your home smell amazing is by making some easy stovetop Potpourri. You can boil just about any food that leaves a beautiful aroma in your home and it will smell so good. Things like orange peel, lemon peel, cloves,  cinnamon, vanilla, mint, rosemary, and apples. Manage Dampness In Your Home Dampness and moisture in your home can leave it smelling less than pleasant. We’ve just had so many weeks of rain recently and so I made sure to get some pots of DampRid. These pots are great as they absorb a lot of dampness and I am always amazed by how much liquid I will always find in the bottom of these pots after only a couple of weeks. You can also get some DampRid sachets that you can hang inside your wardrobe. This will keep your clothes smelling fresh and avoid that damp funky smell. Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Amazing Avoid leaving wet towels and washcloths in your bathroom. Anything that is left damp will smell unpleasant in no time! Another trick I like to use to keep my bathroom smelling fresh is to spray some perfume that I don’t use anymore on the inside of the toilet roll. It’s such a simple trick and you’ll find that every time you spin your toilet roll you’ll catch a nice scent. Sprinkle Bicarbonate Of Soda On Carpets Or Rugs You can sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda or Baking Powder (both are the same thing but with different names) on your rugs or carpets. Bicarb will absorb dirt, oil, and odours. You need to leave it on for a minimum of 15 minutes. But the longer you leave it on the more effective it will be. I like to sprinkle some on my living room rug at night before bed and then vacuum it in the morning. Put Some Vanilla In The Oven Your house will smell like you’ve been baking yummy cookies if you use this trick. Just add about a cup of water with a good dash of vanilla extract into a small oven-proof dish. Then pop it in the oven at 170C for about 40 minutes. Clean The Garbage Bin Take out the garbage and clean the bin regularly. Food scraps can very quickly release unpleasant odours. Keep the bin smelling nice and fresh by wiping it with some disinfectant. Diffuse Essential Oils Essential oil diffusers are a great chemical-free way to make your home smell fresh. Essential oils can also have some pretty amazing benefits for your health and mood. Indoor Plants Indoor plants look beautiful around the home. In addition, the great thing about indoor plants is that they also clean the air. These are just a few tips that I like to use regularly to make my home smell amazing. I hope you find them helpful!
