Hey there, friends. It’s time to link up with Holly and Sarah and recap my very quiet weekend at home. Being home felt good after going back to work last week.
It’s funny how even after Christmas, New Year, and the long summer holidays, it still felt like I’d never really had that time off. Boom. Just like that, it all feels like a distant memory, and Captain Routine came back to take over last week. Not complaining, just reflecting on how quickly time flies. I mean, what happened to January?
So what did I get up to?
Well, the wildest thing I did was get all of my washing done. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to see the bottom of the laundry bag empty for more than five minutes.

But having said that, I think I actually prefer to see dirty washing, because that means Sam is home and he’s gone to work, the gym, or hung out with friends and has gone through about three changes of clothes, which explains the usual full laundry bag. He’s away in Bali, and I’m sure he’s having fun wth his friends.
In the evenings, I’ve sent him a casual text, “Hey, how’s it going?” I don’t mind if I don’t get details. All I want is proof of life. He did send me one photo of his food and one of his accommodation. Good egg! Keep it up.
This weekend, I also got back to cooking some basic, high-protein meals. Over the holidays, it’s been a snack here and a snack there, nobody’s gonna know. Well, the diber dobber scales sure did. I put on a couple of kilos, and so did my husband. He was annoyed at himself, as he is determined not to put on his pre-knee replacement weight, and he still has a goal to drop more.

But it’s all good, because life would be so boring if we didn’t enjoy all the treats during the festive season. Don’t you agree? Anyway, fun’s over and we’re back on track. Cauliflower rice, anyone?

I spent a good chunk of the weekend watching TV. Blue Bloods was one of my all-time favourite shows, and I was very sad when it ended. So when the spin-off Boston Blue came on, I thought, yay! We’ve been watching and are up to date with all of the episodes that have come out so far. I’m not sure… I mean, I do like it and definitely don’t dislike it, but I don’t love it yet. A few too many plot holes for me, and I miss all the Reagans. The weirdest part is that the storylines feel very similar, with the same types of roles and situations repeated. I’ll still watch it, and who knows, I might change my mind.
I also watched four episodes of the last season of Stranger Things. Oooh, it’s so good, and I can’t see how it’s going to end, but I’m really hoping it finishes all neatly wrapped up and everyone alive. Everyone except Vecna!
And that’s about all I got up to over the weekend. How was yours? I hope you had a good one.

Even when my husband and I travel I try to check in with the boys and our parents at least once a day. My mother in law always asks for some sort of “proof of life” photo each day and while I text it to her I text it to everyone else too. It’s been great because it helps me remember to take photos with us in it and not just the lovely scenery! Your salmon and cauliflower rice look so yummy! I love salmon.
It’s so weird, you having your summer holidays over Christmas I can imagine January flying by. Whereas over here we are midwinter and although Christmas is all Christmassy with the snow (sometimes) and cold dark evenings which give more hours to appreciate the sparkly lights. But January, it’s all back to normal except it’s a big comedown and the weather is awful and it goes on and on and on. Yes, we are definitely polar opposites! As for Stranger Things, it really is a good ending with full closure, but I’m not going to spoil anything for you.
Your meal looks delicious and yay for getting laundry done! I hope your son is having a great trip!
Sounds like a wonderful and quiet weekend. Blue Bloods is one of our favorites here!
Even for me the Christmas break seems months ago! Time flies when you’re having fun! Yay for the empty laundry bag! It sounds like you had a good weekend!
When Zachary left this year I told one of his friends that I might need proof of life photos of Zachary from him! But Zachary has been pretty good about staying in touch!
The only reason I have an empty laundry basket is because the kids are grown and gone! I love Blue Bloods also, we still need to see the final season…and I have “discovered” cauliflower rice here recently and think it is a perfectly wonderful way to eat more cauliflower. We mix in half and half with brown rice, and it is quite nice! Have a great week ahead.
What a great little weekend, friend. I’m glad Captain Routine came back in with little to no transition. It’s hard getting back into a routine sometimes! I am going to face that when I go back to work this week after six snow days at home. I love that meme of regretting nothing; it made me laugh out loud! I hope you have a wonderful day, friend, and that your week gets off to a great start. Happy Monday!
